forever lost unusuals

okay just to preface I don't mean to be morbid but think about what happens to your unusuals when you die? (or if you prefer to think about it this way, have a family and uninstall?) I've heard many a folktale from collector's about rare items that are lost for years at a time when their owners go off the grid. 1/1 unusuals, collector's quality cosmetics, rare craft numbers just poof! Imagine whats been lost by the premature passings of our community, if you guys know of any examples (not of death just of abandon backpacks) post what items you wish could be pulled from that great abyss

Darkblaze Banana, dammm

Not quite abandoned, but as far as I can gather DCG is either the most successful scammer in TF2 history, or else a person with a ton of irl money to blow on the game and the lack of morals required to work closely with scammers, buying scammed items and supporting them.  He never sells his items as far as I know.

Also, every scammer that gets trade banned takes a certain amount of items off the market forever.

Whatchu mean?  Max's Heads have never been craftable, and if you just mean the first that ever existed, I'm not sure how you'd prove that.

No, they don't. Accounts are only deleted upon making a request to Steam Support and providing enough proof of ownership.

I really wonder about how that guy amassed such a backpack. I don't hear much of him other than him being #1 backpack. Anyone minds telling me about it?

He doesn't scam, but I don't think he checks about scammers when he trades since it's a easy way for them to cashout and he just likes to buy hats that he likes. I've played with him and fats a bit and they both have some very nice hats.

Which proves something because scammers don't have paypal accounts, and if they did, they totally couldn't fund them with the profits from scamming...

Buying from scammers = working with scammers = barely different than scamming.  In the real world, that's called possession of stolen goods, although the virtual world is more of a Wild West.  Not sure I'd call that "legit".  He's also bought enough items from scammers to get banned from outpost, not for dealing with them, but because he actually looks like he IS the scammer.  He's far too well-connected with scammers to say he's clean or "legit".

Also, no one here actually knows whether he is a scammer or just doesn't care who he buys from.  It's not like he'd admit to scamming on other accounts if he did.

Not an unusual but the red nosed caribou. Only two in existence as far as I know and the last one sold went for a few grand. The biggest problem is both are with rich collectors that will probably die before they sell them.

From the rumours I've heard, Fats and DCG or at least one of them, not sure whether they are related though they are most likely brothers just given how much travelling they do together, are related to a massive Australian mining firm. This would at least explain their extravagant backpacks. With backpacks that are just that big, I highly doubt they need to scam. They do run a YouTube channel together which may provide more insight: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCnak_45PiKmwC9GUzkeoRPw. I doubt the darkblaze banana will be leaving his inventory any time soon, which is a bit sad but at least via the youtube channel you can have a good look.

yes, they do.  that's what we were told by steam support when we tried to reopen his old account.  maybe they changed their policy in the intervening years

He doesn't scam[...]

You can't make that claim based on the information available.  He may not actively scam with that account, but that means nothing--only an idiot would use an account with that much value to scam, and risk a trade ban.  However, he has made a suspiciously large number of trades with scammers, such that he's banned from outpost for being a suspected scammer alt. (OP bans simply for trading with scammers, so the fact that they skipped that and went specifically for the scammer alt angle says he did a lot of trading with scammers).  I'm fairly certain that only happens intentionally.  This guy is not worth defending.

Besides, he does exactly what you'd expect from an extremely successful scammer who wanted to have nice hats--you'd expect them to sell the items they scammed for currency, and then use the currency to buy the items they wanted, which they'd then consolidate into one "clean" account, which had acquired all its items via cash trades.  And anyone who was that successful at scamming would (you'd assume) have both the knowledge and resources to keep their scamming accounts completely separate from their "clean" accounts.  Hell, you could cash out <5% of his inventory and buy multiple separate computers just especially for scamming, if that tickled your fancy.

All of that isn't to say he definitely IS a scammer--I can't prove he is, any more than you can prove he isn't. (Nor am I trying to).

My best guess is that he isn't actually a scammer himself; he simply doesn't care where his hats come from, and has realized that scammers are able to provide the best deals, so he buys from them.  I don't respect that attitude very much.

He's definitely dirty, though--whether he steals items himself, or simply buys them from the people who did steal them, is the only fact in question.  And the fact that all those hats are stuck in dirty hands does kind of get under my skin a little.
