I had the bog-standard G230 and the sound went in one of the ear cups after about 4-6 months. Whether this was bad luck on my part or just the lower-end model having lower build quality I don't know, likely the former. However it was a great headset while it did work so any from that range'd be a good choice in my opinion. I also hear Astro headsets are some of the best!

I hope you are joking, that's the worst piece of crap money can buy.

Get headphones and a modmic, all headsets are crap compared to headphones and a seperate microphone. http://www.modmic.com/

What preferences do you have when it comes to headphones?

I have the G930. I've had it for about 2 years and they have been fantastic. I have a couple of rough kids whose used to break my old surround sound headset within a year. They broken the plastic for the mic, but some super glue fixed that.

Surround is B U L L S H I T, it ruins the experience completely. Listen to this video with your "virtual yoloswag 7.1 dolby surround 2014 best shit since sliced bread".

As you hear, you can hear the sound and where it is, with stereo 2.1 sound, this video shows how much you can do with 2.1 sound, 7.1 in headphones is bullshit, will always be and no one should care about it.

No shit?

Saying 7.1 headphones are better than 2.1 headphones is like saying a hyper threaded cpu core is better than a physical core.....Ummm no, headphones are two TWO speakers, you can't just make five speakers "virtually", it doesn't work.

That's what i tried to say, surround in headphones is bullshit, he said it in a way sounding like he thought it was better.

Then you havnt had it. It is by far the best headset i've used and is incredibly comfortable. The mic is retractable so putting it away is easy.

Of course there are better headphones. But if youre after a headset, thats the best ive used. And the OP is after a headset not headphones and some desk mic.

Headphones + desk mic + tape.

Headphones + desk mic + tape. =/= Headset.

I can vouch for virtual 7.1. While it doesn't sound like actual surround sound, if I'm playing CS:GO and I hear footstep, I instantly know where they're coming from. Definitely easier than with 2.1.

Virtual 7.1 is so cheap nowadays that I don't see a reason not to get it, unless of course you plan to buy nice headphones and a mic.

Of course it's cheap, it's just a piece of shitty software.

I haven't owned one because i don't want one, the mic sucks, sure it's retractable, but it still sucks, the headset itself is very cheaply built, the sound hurts listening to.

The only headset that is decent is the Sennheiser pc360, it's made by a company that know their shit unlike razer or steelseries.

I don't think it's really that decent, though. If I remember correctly, it's like a $300 headset, and it's not much better than their $100 headphones.

I can hear instantly where someone is in CS:GO using my PC350SE and they are not 7.1

Just download razer surround and you get it for free and it works alot better.

Not sure if this thread is still alive but you can op to just get a cheapy webcam (most mis on them work pretty darn well) and a decent pair of headphones incase you want to bring them around with you. Can just install razer surround and you get 7.1 anyways.

You wont risk the stupid issue where alot of headsets have where the mic can cause minor static :l

Or just don't bother getting something that is not necessary and doesn't do much ... like 7.1 in a headset.

I only mentioned it since everyone above was talking about it and i dont use it personally either.

Only use for it as far as i can see is playing cs:go where being able to pinpoint the enemy via sound is crucial however to me ive gotten too used to normal headphones cbb with 7.1
