unusualneymar Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 just my 2 cents = obviously i don't hate on anyone paying whatever price they feel is right for something they really want = that's classic me. i just find it kinda funny that even my overpaying, get-what-I-want-at-all-costs ass thinks it is absurd that noir paid 5 grand for the first one and that this one is getting 3 grand offers. i'm not trolling or criticizing, i'm just curious what other people in the forums think on the matter. this is gonna sound NUTS coming from ME...and i understand rarity plays a factor (about 300 caribou compared to only 2 red nosed caribou, 150:1 ratio) but... the regular caribou, of which there are fewer than 300 crafted, but let's just call it 300 of them, go for about 4 buds right now (imo probably will be 1.5 times more than that if you wait severral months or a year) the red-nosed caribou, of which there are 2 in existence, go for...100-150 buds (taking terabytes thus-far winning bid and noir's winning bid for the first one on market) so...people would pay literally 25 times the price of a regular caribou for one that basically has a glowing team spirit nose? i understand the gold pan. there are a million unique pans, tens of thousands if not hundreds of thousands of strange pans, but only two handfuls of gold pans. AND THEY TURN SHIT INTO GOLD. AND EVERY CLASS CAN USE IT. but the red-nosed caribou? it's purely cosmetic, applies to one class only, and really effectively does nothing different than the regular caribou other than glow red or blue i dunno, looking through those offers, i think eff's offer is reasonable and as high as i would personally go for this item. a thousand bucks for a red-nose compared to about 120 for a regular one. yea i can dig that mark up. a little more than a 8:1 ratio. not too off but 5000? 3000? godamn. and i realize everything i said above will adjust once more gold pans drop and also b/c there is seemingly NO way to ever get any more red nosed caribou, but yea, i'm perfectly satisfied with my regular caribou lol especially curious what current caribou owners/aspiring caribou owners think about it
Woifi The Viking Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 This is the place for discussions about the item, if you have a really good offer, post in the trading thread: http://forums.backpack.tf/index.php?/topic/6389-wts-randolph-the-blood-nosed-caribou/
whopz Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 A craft hat for sniper worth $5,000? Any explanation for this insanity?
dixiecountry1971 Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 A craft hat for sniper worth $5,000? Any explanation for this insanity? The worst part is that the hat is just plain ugly, imo
whopz Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 It says in his backpack it's a sniper cosmetic. And yeah, ugly. If someone is willing to pay that much I guess that's what it's currently worth though.
Baloo Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 Terabyte made an account just so he could offer on it.
WH The Director {terabyte} Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 Gettin' down with the riff-raff
F CHARLIE Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 Gettin' down with the riff-raff Look, a fool and his money has joined us. Welcome.
Blatch Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 Well, it could be worse... more like always will be worse. I heard that some guy paid over $30,000 for a Dota 2 courier that was rendered obsolete by a change in the item system (or something like that) just weeks later. At least these two Randolphs will keep their value (unless they're ever released again), even compared to the Gold 'Pans.
Perseus Dash Jackson Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 ...Unique things are always going to be worth a crapton. That's one of the basic things about collectors.

Wait until you hear what people spent on old MMOs like eve.

♠Derpeh♤ Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 I dont see why anyone would pay that much extra for a red nose on a one class hat and it seems stupid to me, but if they got money to burn then congratz?
puddingkip Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Look, a talking sage. You're Welcome. Can I ask what you paid? and dat bp...
WH The Director {terabyte} Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Can I ask what you paid? and dat bp... Sorry, as with all deals of this kind, I don't disclose the final price (for various reasons). Please don't bother the seller either since he has also agreed to keep the final amount secret.

whopz Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Except that you offered $3,000 dollars publicly of course, so probably around that.
HelenAngel Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Totally off-topic but this made me giggle: "Because we have a bet with steamrep who can hold out longer understaffed before dying a slowly painful death." I absolutely love that quote so much. Also, as Teeird said, this is just the tip of the iceberg. You should see how much money people drop in Second Life- it's in the tens of thousands on a regular basis. Microeconomies are big business. Valve just has one of many and compared to some other sites that have been doing this for longer, it's actually more on the lower-end where cosmetic items are concerned.
Liddojunior Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Well its the rarest tradable item in TF2 you would expect it to go for top dollar to any collector. I wouldnt have been surprised to have seen it go for 5+$ k Its going to be 2 of 2 forever since valve doesnt repeat promotional items. I would really love to have the red nosed caribou and wish it was very common, I think it looks good. Also, as Teeird said, this is just the tip of the iceberg. Didn't even know about Second Life. I know people have spent a ton of money for digital items in other games especially mmos. But that was a surprise, i thought it was some made up game in Law and Order
Pyrocide Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Its going to be 2 of 2 forever since valve doesnt repeat promotional items. Until it is duped.
puddingkip Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Until it is duped. Volvo only dupes when it's scammed. I doubt The Director would be dumb enough to click phishing links.
Woifi The Viking Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 I don't think that the dircetor will be hijacked again. And glad you liked my quote helen.^^
Pyrocide Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Volvo only dupes when it's scammed. I doubt The Director would be dumb enough to click phishing links. When did Volvo buy into Team Fortress? ;-) Who knows; its possible...There are two in existence afterall
Blatch Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 When did Volvo buy into Team Fortress? ;-) Who knows; its possible...There are two in existence afterall I guess it's an in-joke that has to do with the "Give Diretide" meme a while back.
