Anyone think flies being themed on sniper is as ridiculous as I do?

But flies is themed on sniper.. because you cant see them?

I dont understand why you'd pay hundreds of times more for an unusual that is themed because it doesnt look like an unusual instead of just getting the normal hat itself

Also, sniper is Australian and heat=flies, I get that

if someone could explain the rationale here, that'd be fine and dandy

Flies are usually associated with things that stink and/or heat. Sniper has piss and stays in the same spot, so Flies would normally go around someone like that. I can understand hats like the Slouth and Sola Topi, but not hats like the Cold Killer, which is in the cold.

well, people like flies on sniper because they don't affect their gameplay. That's one of the many reasons i run flies unusuals on each class lol.

Flies swagman is ok and so is hive minder (THE BEEEES). I get Fruit Shoot too, its like the apple is rotten. Other than that, I don't get it at all. Maybe because the sniper is Australian and there are a lot of flies in Australia? Or maybe he never showers and is all gross and attracts flies cuz hes too 1337 to cleanse himself.

Flies aren't really themed on sniper; the price (and tier) has more to do with the fact that anyone who wants a sniper unusual is going to want a low-profile unusual then can be seen up-close, but not from afar.

Two reasons. First off, nb is utter crap--flies at least is decent. Secondly, the whole flies on sniper thing was established long before the new effects came into existence.

Flies got some treatment in the past (they spread out the flies and changed the movement of them), so i don't see any reason not to give nuts a little lovin'.  I like the way the nuts and bolts orbit, but if they put some coloring on the effect, it might make it better.  For example if they made it more of a grey steel color and maybe added little bits of rust on it.  Or if they added little trails to the individual nuts and bolts, that'd probably look pretty neat.

Flies was already an established effect when that enhancement was made. The problem with nb is that its not very visible even up close. Its a tiny halo of nb orbiting around your head. If they added more nb and/or made it rain (or explode) nb it would be better.

I argue in favor of steaming and smoking as a better alternative to flies. I have a steaming lid and its the hat I am least likely to trade.

First of all, he is not insulting the hat, he is merely stating that the effect does not fit with the hat.

Second of all, he is not addressing your hat specifically, so he is not necessarily insulting "your" hat.

Flies on a sniper is considered god tier because on the sniper you want something which is not as revealing and it was established and held it's place as such in the old times of tf2.

 

N&B werent considered although it has low visibility it was unboxed too often, Fettis weren't either because in the olden times on tf2 fettis were considered the absolute cancer effect and the worse tier effect to possibly have.

fetti and flies were really treated pretty equal; half the people thought flies > fetti and the other half thought fetti > flies.

 

A better guess as to why flies was the go-to for snipers rather than fetti probably has to do with fact that flies was themed on certain hats and it just kind of stuck even though it was really on par with fetti. 

 

And yea...i really don't understand how the team captain got the status it has. Out of all the people i've talked to, the majority think the tc is crap--so i'm really not quite sure why the tc became the most expensive unusual in the game....It probably has something to do with Mattie, although tbh, i'm not exactly sure when mattie started calling tcs and when the tc become the most expensive.

Because they want to stand out on their team and in killcams (wait, I can't remember if effects are shown in killcams)...

 

But plain hats are just boring.

There are some "commonly accepted truths" in TF2 that should be broken, for instance Sniper unusual Flies, Team Captain perceived value, Max levels 1 and 7, etc.

 

In the past other generally accepted truths have eventually been broken such as Bill's Hat value / usage as currency.

because some people care about playing the game more than running around trade servers flaunting out hats...

im the latter one.
