Korone
Are they lower in value because everyone unboxed this year or because a lot of them are kind of ugly as well? It seems like 2 years ago people really didn't see the value in festive im guessing, so less were unboxed and now that people caught on everyone is unboxing them. That's sort of like pre-order items. The sam and max ones and l4d2 ones were worth a bunch but as there were more and more of those items released and people caught on they just didn't have the value anymore. GSC159753
People during the 2012 asumed that they would rise like the 2011 ones (causing massive hype and demand) when 2012 ended and onward they didnt rise as fast as expected. People learned from that and so the massive hype to buy and unbox just wasn't there this year.

polar
I don't know what you mean. The value of the festives are the same as the value of the festives last year Festive Sandvich: http://backpack.tf/stats/Unique/Festive%20Sandvich/Tradable/Craftable - went down to 1 ref same time last year Festive Ubersaw: http://backpack.tf/stats/Unique/Festive%20Ubersaw/Tradable/Craftable - went down to 0.88-1 ref same time last year
Baloo
Festive Buff Banner is still only 1.33 refined after a year. This year's and last year's festive are crap compared to the ones from 2011, and since TF2 is all about looks, there's less demand for them, and thus lower prices. Also 2011 festives were more desired weapons in general compared to newer ones.

Lowest any 2012 SF got were 3.4/3.5 keys with the Ubersaw and Frontier Justice. The only one that's not below that mark already is the Blackbox. I believe they will see higher prices by comparison in part due to the trader community being so much larger than in pervious years. The effect is more flippers driving a price down and once some of that stock is gone then the price will adjust to their statistical expectations. There are as many sf fans in the game as sf macks for example. The fan is very likely going to be more popular. Same is true for sf buffbanner and sf box. I would argue that each of this years fests are going to be more valuable than last yrs with exception of sf huntsman but none will be worth more than gen 1 on numbers alone. Baloo
Idk but whatever it is, it completely wiped out my BP value People need to stop using hyperboles, it makes your argument seem less intelligent. Your backpack dropped roughly $10, which granted, was around 18% of your overall backpack value, but its not like it wasn't to be expected. New items, regardless of supply restrictions, will for the vast majority of the time (I actually cannot think of an exception) drop in value after they are first released. It is never a good idea to hold onto a new item in hopes of profit. If you're in it for profit, then sell it at the beginning of the event and buy it back for less at the end, but the only festives that tend to raise are strange festives, and even then it doesn't happen until months after the event when supply has decreased due to hoarders not selling or only selling for higher mixed with people who actually want to keep it having bought it and thus limiting the supply available, as well. tangram § Xen domU
Not to mention that the new festives are half useless and look...different. Looks wise, so did the 2011 and the gold weapons. Too much uncrating and the fact that practically all the better weapons were already used in the previous years makes all the difference. The rule is stocks > unlocks with some honorable exceptions. For 2013 festives to be a success Vave would need 2 things: 1) limit the number of unboxes and 2) ship Gunslinger and Kritz. And we all know 1) hurt Valve in the wallet. Let's face it: future festives won't ever be as popular in demand as the old 2011 stuff.
whopz
Probably because they're ugly, they're not stock weapons and there's no demand and reasonably large supply.

whopz
Fair enough, but it's ugly as shit. I want to sap stuff with a weird calculator thing, not an unspecified present. It's clear from the prices already that the SF sapper is not that popular.
Wolfy
The golden rule of popular weapons -> popular reskins still apply Like, no one wants the Australium Blutsauger or Frontier Justice and people are still going crazy over the Scatter or Rocket or Medigun. (the pan is a whole different story). Festives work in the same way probably. Also there's a LOT on the market because even though some people know that it's not as profitable as people think, there's still a giant hype behind it. Last year's didn't rise like crazy because people were expecting it to rise, causing large amounts of unboxes. This year even MORE people unboxed, causing the market to be flooded and SFs being "less valuable". Meh, at least that means there's still enough people trading/playing to create a market overflow.
