advicebanana Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 I was added by someone emptying out inventories of phished accounts the day before yesterday and looked at his inventory over the course of the day. The many unusuals he had initially soon disappeared and at the end of the day, only a snapshot that had a few keys left was saved. It might be easier for people who lost their items in such a way to be able to point to a backpack and also for investigations to see where the stolen items went. Since this would surely require a huge amount of resources, I thought of these restrictions: Only trigger extra snapshots when a certain item value of threshold for disappeared or added is exceeded since the last snapshot. Possibly have an extra trigger for unusuals, Killstreak, Collector items, the last of which is not recognized by the spreadsheet yet To reduce load, maybe require an account to be flagged by a moderator for additional snapshots. But that would require manpower again.

I like this idea but in order for this to work bp.tf would have to scan backpacks 24/7 to see when people's backpacks jump or drop in value not to mention many unusual traders who trade multiple unusual regularly doesnt seem to be very viable. Phishing doesnt happen to traders who are aware, in most cases it's derpy greedy traders who get messages like "ill pay 2 buds over your b/o add me now"...

Or just save the information every time someone views a bp. And use a similar compression that dvds use and only save changes that were made; there would be one main save for a backpack; and every time it gets viewed a new modification save will have a list of all items that were added or removed since the last check (and of course, if no changes were made then there would be no save).

I refresh my backpack every 5 minutes. Do you want to have 100+ histories saved per day?
AwesomeMcCoolName Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 I refresh my backpack every 5 minutes. Do you want to have 100+ histories saved per day? like i said, it would only save the history if something changed; and it wouldn't list every single save. It would list one save per day, and then you would have an option for various saves throughout the day.

That would still mean 50 saves per day.

As I suggested in the original post, I would only save a new snapshot if a certain threshold of items or particular classes of high-value items came in or were traded away. I would not change the system of the history only being updated when someone actually looks at the backpack. Regarding the 5 minutes thing, the current owner of an item should already be updated mostly when you visit the item's history, but it is not be in the backpack history of a user anymore if it enters and leaves their backpack in the same day.
Slocumruls Posted January 18, 2014 Posted January 18, 2014 I understand why you want this but I'm like Woifi. I've made 100s of trades in 1 day and viewed my own backpack 100s of times.
