Bring Craft # Values Back!

Champion 172

Recommended Posts

Well, after a recent update, all the craft # values have been removed.

This is a real pain, especially when people only look at the price tag and use the prices at backpack.tf as a bible.

I have a #28 Das Fantzipantzen that WAS worth 9.3 keys which I bought for roughly around 7 mixed, so I'm trying to buy a painted Bill's with my #28 + sweets. Some of the people agree to my offer, just as we're about to trade they would ask for my backpack link; they look at my #28 and say it's only worth 2 ref. I don't know how many times I facepalmed, but now since there's no craft values on backpack.tf,

people will possibly never agree to a deal.

It's kinda annoying honestly, I'm pretty sure there are others as well that are facing the same problem as I am.

Feedback is greatly appreciated,

Chump.

I can assure you your fanzi never around 9.3 keys, probably more like 4. There were far more people getting sharked for some "very valuable" # for their unusual than will probably get sharked out of their # for the regular hat price.

So it's a choice between two bad things, with Brad (and me and nearly everybody) thinking the first is far worse than the latter. So the # value was removed

The problem is, your item was never really worth 9.3 keys to begin with. Those prices were horribly inaccurate and there was simply no way of getting somewhat accurate values with an automatic system so it was removed completely as mentioned in the update notes.

Those people who offer you 2 ref are not the kind of buyer you are looking for, you have to wait for a collector. You might not be able to get what you paid.

Agree with the two (/edit three) guys above, old prices were terrible.

But well, i just got an offer of 2 ref on my low # duckling.
'2 ref ducks backpack.tf?'

i don't think current solution should be final, i'd still be looking for a note or so saying the item is worth more than the regular version.

Thanks for your replies, but can't we get some sort of price? :l

the problem is that no algorithm will predict prices accurately enough. i.e. a #28 modest will be a lot more then a #28 fantzi; so the algorithm would need to account for:

  • Age of the item
  • Normal value (demand) of the item
  • 100 different numbers

If you want to bookmark and keep track of every single craft number and create a comprehensive list of what every craft number has sold for; including craft #s from all the various updates and through all the various craft #s that exist (1-100, or at least general ranges and the special #s) then i'm sure there wouldn't be a problem putting prices back. BUT, without a detailed "study" into all craft #s theres really no way to put a price on them; and the old price algorithm (for the most part overvalued Craft #s and Odd-level'd vintages by two).

But as others have said, a lot of people were just linking newer traders a backpack.tf link showing that the Craft# (that they likely paid around 3-4 keys for) was worth 9+ keys; and then these new traders would get stuck with this craft #, which if they were lucky, would sell in 5 months to another new trader who didn't know better.

Well, turns out I sold my craft # and 2 keys for a Black Bill's. Pretty much lost profit there, but I'll never deal with craft #s unless they're #10 and below

Well, selling craft #'s is a pain; but most tend to go for around 4 keys.

The craft numbers were always inaccurate, some underpriced and some overpriced, like your fanzi. What about Mattie's #1 tc? I doubt it was only "2 buds" I think craft #s should be able to have suggestions of themselves.

So we could have the whole front page flooded with pointless craft # suggestions from people farming rep? No.

I'd agree with the suggestion part; HOWEVER, you really would end up with too many suggestions considering the shear number of craft numbers and how infrequently their on the market. It would just be a mess. And because of how infrequently they're traded, kind of unnecessary. The best thing would be to:

  1. Creat a massive list of all craft numbers and all sales from now onward and create an accurate algorithm.
  2. Remove the price on Craft #s altogether; so no longer list it as 2 Ref, just list it as a "rare craft" in place of value or list it as "market price" or something like that.

And the #1 tc is a LOT more. Like 2 years ago, #28~ was going for around 8 buds, I'm not sure exactly what its doing now; but craft #s are really dependent on the age of the hat more then anything else; so you'd need to have a different algorithm for each update/group of updates.

I'd say make normal ones 3-4 keyish. Then have special #s have different prices, like 2 for #1s. And have a note after the price saying "This item may be worth more or less than the amount stated depending on how high/low it's craft # is."

If they should bring it back then we should be able to vote for prices on individual craft #'s. The normal prices for all the craft #'s were either incredibly overpriced or horrifically low.

Guesstimates are very bad for the community and people end up unknowingly sharking each other.

Well, as a general rule; 4 keys is a fair estimate for most crafts (>10 and excluding old hats).

But i agree; no price is the best option, unless someone plans on building a huge spreadsheet consisting of hundreds of craft # sales including all craft numbers for 1-100; and on a wide variety of hats (a representative amount)....so like 30+ hats (i.e. something that is hugely impractical and never going to happen).
