cleverpun Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 I know there is a few topics about comment quality floating around. I'm not here to have that conversation again. What I AM here to ask is related to that, however. Do you think that posts on suggestions which consist solely of reaction images, demotivationals, ASCII art, etc. should be given warnings for spam? They never add anything to the discussion except an attempt at humor, and while I have refrained from handing out warnings for them, this is only because they occupy a vague area. Spam is already a warnable offense. Should posts which are only images without relevance be counted as spam? I did not add a poll because this is a discussion, not a vote.
Puddilicious Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 Yes, it's spam, but I enjoy them. lol I'm fine with whatever policy you guys want.
Chief D Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 I would be against banning them if they were even remotely funny. 9fag killed the internet. I want to ban anyone who posts an unfunny le maymay
Jymotion Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 I downvote/dislike every one I see, but I feel like handing down a mod warning seems too harsh (assuming the image isn't offensive). I'm aware there is no action in between :/
✔ P I X E L A T E D ✔ Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 Yes. But start of with a general message to everyone about it then start hiding and marking.
Rhys13th Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 Like Jymotion and Pixelated said: if you ban it, do a PSA first and a 1 week/3 day warning period where you remind the offender with a comment instead of warning them. I personally see no problem with it, as long as it's relevant.
RuffRyders Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 Usually those gifs are posted on shitty suggestions. Spam attracts spam. So I don't mind the comments. The problem lies in those shitty suggestions, But whatever I enjoy those shitty suggestions and commenting such reactions should be allowed, freedom of speech right?
Mr. Bucket Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 I don't mind them. It doesn't really take anything away from the suggestion (imo) as long as nothing inappropriate is posted
cleverpun Posted March 24, 2013 Author Posted March 24, 2013 I'm not seeing any consensus, among users or mods. Most of the mods are ambivalent, and users are either against it or don't mind as long as there is grace period beforehand.
Ryoudji Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 Yes please. If they don't have anything useful to share or contribute with the suggestion they shouldn't post at all.
∞Ramses Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 There's a big difference between "serious" topics and less serious ones. And I kinda like them, it's way more motivational/funny to keep reading reactions and stuff. I hope you were talking about the forum topics.

Edited the original post to make this clearer
AwesomeMcCoolName Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 Like some said earlier, the reaction images are pretty much only posted on spam suggestions, so it really doesn't matter.
cleverpun Posted March 25, 2013 Author Posted March 25, 2013 Alright, considering the general ambivalence of the mods and community, I know when to admit I'm nitpicking/overreacting.
Jymotion Posted March 31, 2013 Posted March 31, 2013 Alright, considering the general ambivalence of the mods and community, I know when to admit I'm nitpicking/overreacting. can posting ASCII Picard Facepalms on every proofless suggestion be considered spamming?
cleverpun Posted March 31, 2013 Author Posted March 31, 2013 can posting ASCII Picard Facepalms on every proofless suggestion be considered spamming? If its the same person every time possibly--others have been banned for spamming posts
Chief D Posted March 31, 2013 Posted March 31, 2013 If its the same person every time possibly--others have been banned for spamming posts Perhaps a warn would be better? We still need that ban counter or "auto-ban" someone with 5 warnings. Not sure. Also, we need the 3-day ban. Dammit Brad stop being so busy.

Triforce of Charmanders Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 I don't believe this would be a good idea (IMO). As other have stated before me, the "memes" are usually posted on "no proof" suggestions, or suggestions of that nature. Showing how disappointed we are of their lack of evidence given that would have help their suggestion get passed. Since the suggestion wasn't taken seriously, the community doesn't take it seriously and just posts memes. If you were to ban everyone that just post memes, a lot of bans would be handed out.
MC22 Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 You don't counter bad with more bad.Banning is bad.Why ban then?
