Leeo282 Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 I came across a price suggestion for Collector's Red-Tape Recorder today. http://backpack.tf/vote/id/52a3ddce4dd7b82c018b456b Pyroman said one of the Collector's Red-Tape Recorder is duped. I want to know how exactly he tell that one is duped? I though the real method is checking the item original ID and see if two item shared the same ID. I checked all four Collector's Red-Tape Recorder, and none of them share the same original ID. http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/16198126 http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/16195622 http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/16012889 http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/16147970 Also, none of them even shared a single previous owner in their history. Backpack said there are 4 in existence. P.S: How do people find these Collector version items?!
polar Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 Click on the item in the person's backpack and go to item history http://backpack.tf/item/2127829821 There is also a link to tf2items there to verify that it is duped. But often doesn't load on tf2items if the item has recently been traded On new items that are duped by valve upon hijacking, it's easy to tell from outpost history http://www.tf2outpost.com/item/440,2128286590,810,14 Number should proceed sequentially with new owners. But you can see that one number reverts back to: #2127829821 - the person who got hijacked.
Leeo282 Posted December 12, 2013 Author Posted December 12, 2013 I see. What you are saying is that one of the previous owner got hijacked, and valve duped a new one for him. The true original ID of that item is 2128174610, but changed to 2127829821 when it is duped. What happened to the old one? Is it deleted? Can this still be consider duped, as this did not contribute to making extra copies? Also, one of my unusual is considered duped on Backpack, but the owners record didn't said any other same hat having the identical original ID. http://backpack.tf/item/772006277 http://backpack.tf/premium/search?cat=particle&particle=30&defindex=600&tradable=-1&level=-1 Can someone explain this?

Neither is the dupe and neither is the original; they're both equally duped. The old one still exists--thats how you know its duped--if the hat exists in another users backpack.
E-Arkham Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 You know, I always wondered. What happens to the history of an item if you manage to get both dupes of an item and delete one? Does the history clear itself out, or will it forever say "duped" due to non-sequential numbers in the history?
