How to start trading

So I have been doing some trading recently, nothing big some cheap hats, and okay skins. I was wondering how many keys I would need to have to get into trading good hats. I want to trade up to a killa watt co pilot. I am looking for advice on how many keys I should have, and other tips on trading. Thanks!

If you mean unusuals by saying good hats then you need around 8-10 keys to start low tier unusual trading but more buying power (more keys) is always better. Traditional trading tip : Buy for low, sell for high. If you cant sell a item lower the price a bit but never sell a item for less than you paid for it. Good luck

Thanks for the advice! I was also wondering where I can buy these and sell them?, because usually they are the same price on backpack, and people tend to go with backpack's price on trade servers even for stuff like craft hats. Also is an unusual bombing run a good hat to start with when trying to get into unusual trading?

I am interested too, as I had a bit of luck very few times to find some good deals for buying, but that's it. It's hard to buy low and sell high as people always buy low or bp.tf price, and sell bp.tf price or higher.

Even the people screaming quickbuy/quicksell are liars as it turns out they use the same prices or higher.

 

Also, sometimes I found suggestions to trade in trade servers, however from my experience it is mostly wasted time unless for very specific items which don't have a real demand but people like to buy anyway. On servers, everyone is there for profit, and it's just clashing with the same kind of people for months buying only if you accept their lowball and selling their ridicolously overpriced stuff.

 

Take this with a grain of salt, as I never entered in the unusual trading and I don't think I will ever like it.

You can create a listing on outpost and buy low tiers for %30 discount. Also you can do this on Vatican Unusual Trade Server too. And yes bombing run is a easy resell hat. Go for it

Honestly, as someone who has traded from basically nothing I have to say the first bit (1-20 keys) is not worth it really. Basically it took me around 6-9 months to trade out of there, while after that the profit margin expands. Basically what I'm saying is that trading while you have very little to work with is time consuming and difficult.

 

Personally, I got out by flipping items that most people wouldn't, like killstreaks, etc. High risk high reward.
