Determining whether an item on the SCM is duped

I recently sold a hat for a fair amount of money on the SCM and am considering reinvesting some of my profits into a new unusual.  I've found a few I'm interested in, which are being sold for significantly under BP price, but I'm concerned that they may be duped.  Is there any convenient way to check?  The best I can figure is to reverse image search the seller's avatars to find their profiles, then check their BP histories.  It's a time-consuming and sometimes inaccurate process, so any workaround would be appreciated.

@OP: You can reverse image search for the user icon ( if it's not too generic ) then pull up their backpack history and try to find the unus.

I've had terrible luck doing this sadly. I really haven't even been able to get it to get any hits with steam at all, let alone give me a good profile :(

I found this vid a while back but it's super complicated and I could never get it to work, although if you can figure it out it should be reliable. https://youtu.be/WSSeok6ZQ3A

Only works if the hat just got put on the market/item history not updated yet.

Otherwise it will say that the item doesn't seem to exist/private investory.

My method was this:

Right click on buy

Copy url

Paste url somewhere

Example: javascript:BuyMarketListing('listing', '629759929375998786', 440, '2', '4847977345')

The last few numbers is the item id => 4847977345

Go to backpack.tf/item/4847977345

If error it's been on the market for too long.

Okay, I learned this in cs:go.

Go to the market page,

cHknz.png

Click the arrow, and then right-click inspect in-game.

Copy the link, and paste it in your browser. It should look like this:

steam://rungame/440/76561202255233023/+tf_econ_item_preview%20M192911622658167060A4999202870D9386700916408071822

See the A and the D? (I've bolded them)

Between that is the item's id.

But, that's not the ORIGINAL ID, which you need for backpack.tf. That's the current one.

You can convert it by putting it in TF2OP:

http://www.tf2outpost.com/item/440,(replace this with the ID)

Then taking what it says "Original ID", and putting that in

http://backpack.tf/item/(original id)
