Post my political views? Nah, here's a story and call to action instead.

Last month in my Journalism class, I overheard a conversation between two boys, let's call them A and B. The conversation went as such:

A. "I'm going to be old enough to vote for the next president in 2016, it's too bad all of these candidates suck."

B. "Yeah, I'm probably not even going to vote in the elections"

A. "Me neither. Besides, Donald Trump's just going to win anyways."

At this point I was internally frothing with rage at these clueless dudes. Donald Trump is going to win unless people like those kids either vote for a better Republican candidate in the primaries or vote against him in the election. People who don't vote because they see it as voting between the lesser of evils are not only throwing away their vote, but are doing exactly what politicians like Trump want them to do; to stay home and cripple the youth vote.

To any Americans in this thread who will be 18 by November 2nd: I'm not telling you who to vote for or why, that's for you to decide. But if you want to see any positive change in this country, you've gotta vote. Whatever you do, don't be like those fuckboys in my class. Find the politician who you support the most, and vote for them in the primaries and main elections, knowing that by doing so you're helping keep the most diabolical politicians out of office. Don't play into the hands of the politicians who profit off of voter disenfranchisement. Fucking. Vote.

Bernie all day

-snip

^ Can't find a better candidate. No literally you can't, have you seen who's running. I feel like he'll be a good Prez. and he'll remove the NSA spying program (I think) but with all candidates, it's probably hogs wash and just there to get people to vote for them.

Pretty much this. We Canadians for the last few elections pretty much went through something similar until recently; due to the younger demographic of voters not bothering to vote, Stephen Harper and the Conservative party dominated parliament for 9 years, pretty much screwing us over during that time period. It was only during the recent election that the country collectively got fed up with the conservative prime minister and, through vote of cabinet seats, made sure to vote in favor of the liberals, the party most likely to own enough seats to knock the conservatives off.

Unless the US goes through something similar, chances are that trump will indeed get the majority, simply by using the lack of votes in his favor.

Honestly at this point Bernie Sanders is all we have left.

Hillary Clinton = liar, wife to a liar

Donald Trump = He's Donald Trump

Bernie Sanders, while I disagree with some of his policies, is the only shot we have. He doesn't accept large donations the majority of the time, keeping him from being controlled by a third party like other candidates, and isn't a total scumbag that has their own interests before America's.

On the topic of Hillary I think Bill Maher said it best really. "I find her slogan 'Are you ready for Hillary?' to perfectly capsulize how I feel about her. Am I ready for Hillary? Yes. Am I excited? No."

If Bernie doesn't win the nomination, then I would have to vote for Hillary. I don't think she would do a whole lot of good, but I would at least feel comfortable knowing she wouldn't do anything stupid and completely fuck us over. I don't know of any Republican candidates I feel like that about, certainly not Trump.

I'm just an American so it's not like I'm experienced with Canadian politics, but let's make a wild guess here. That guy is Stephen Harper yea? :P

Doesn't sound like you know about him though so w/e

Why does it matter that I don't know about him? If he wants to prove a point he can state his arguments and not just post a picture of someone.

Trump is literally an idiot.

  1. He wants to deport all the illegal immigrants (~11million), which is literally impossible.
  2. THEN, he wants to make a wall (which would cost billions), and make Mexico pay for it. Would they really pay for something after America dumps a few million people into their country?
  3. He also makes a ton of racist comments about Muslims.
  4. He also said,

http://www.slate.com/blogs/the_slatest/2015/06/29/donald_trump_fired_from_nbc_celebrity_apprentice_star_and_republican_presidential.html

"The U.S. has become a dumping ground for everybody else’s problems. … When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. They’re not sending you. They’re not sending you. They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people."

Favorite one and why?

e.g: Marco Rubio - Very polished speaker, and would beat Hilary.

You mean Water Guzzling Rubio.  Sorry, can't resist and no I will not be putting up a meme of him from that speech.  I have heard he is a good speaker but I don't think he has what is needed to win.  Although Hillary is fairly beatable.

Bernie all day

He's the most genuine, has the best ideas, and he's a dank rapper (trollface).

I can't think of a single issue in which I prefer Hillary over Bernie, yet Hillary still leads by a decent margin. I think people are still childishly afraid of the word "socialism" or Hillary still captures most of the woman vote because, well, she's a woman.

EDIT: Looks like Hillary captures 56% of women while Bernie gets 28%, despite the male vote being 46/41. Interestingly Hillary also captures 68% of the non-white vote with Bernie only getting 19%. Not sure why that would be really.

Source: http://www.cbsnews.com/news/hillary-clinton-maintains-lead-among-democrats-cbs-newsny-times-poll/(from November but still somewhat relevant)

Its because media reported that Hillary won the first debate while people who watched it said Bernie did.  Then the DNC buried the remaining debates so people continued to believe that Hillary was the better candidate.

I'd go with Bernie if all his policies weren't trash.

I support him but why would you?  If you think he is more honest but don't like what he wants to do then ask yourself what the dishonest candidates are telling you that make you like what they say while not trusting them.  I don't get it.

But... He's like. Doubling the minimum wage ...

and that bad?  McDonalds profit margin can easily absorb paying their employees $12 an hour with benefits.  If you want to argue in favor of their profit I will argue that no nation or group of people exist for the benefit of corporations.  That feel a little like slavery to me.  We are a nation of people not a nation of corporations.

Besides favoring Bernie's proposals I am most interested in his call to end money in politics.  At least corporate money and billionaire money.  Since caps on political donations were removed our politicians have been bought and have been rigging the country to remove us from having say in it while granting more power to those that bought them.  I am fearful of the nation I will grow old in as well as the one my children will live in (I have two sons and one daughter).

On the one hand I'm glad that 95% of the people here can't actually vote. On the other hand, a lot of these people represent the future of our country and some of this probably represents the opinion of their parents.

We're so fucked....

Say what you want about Bernie and his ideas, he's just not electable. He refuses to choose a word other than "socialism" and he'll never get elected using that term.

Trump's whole campaign reminds me of the political joke where a news reporter tells a candidate they're going to post an article on the front page of a news paper explaining how horrible of a candidate they are.  Their response is: Make sure you spell my name right.

Any popularity is good for candidates, doesn't matter what's being said about them.  Trump is literally creating his own news and thus popularity by bad-mouthing everything.  Most of the time candidates are paying for their campaign with money from sponsors.  Obviously they can't say anything bad about those sponsors or they'll stop getting funded.  Trump is funding his own campaign so he can say whatever the fuck he wants about ANYONE.

People seem to love this, and I have to admit it's fun watching him crush Jeb Bush... but we have to realize that THIS IS NOT FUCKING PRESIDENTIAL MATERIAL.  It almost reminds me of classroom presidents in elementary school, they're only elected based on popularity.

Polar's right, we're fucked...

Interesting you bring up Harper.  I don't think Harper succeeded mainly because the youth didn't go out and vote.  I think a large part of the reason why he maintained power for so long is because in Canada, the left is split between the NDP and the Liberals.  So while a larger percentage of Canadians think of themselves as left leaning than conservative, the conservative vote was united in one party.

This is really interesting because the same thing may happen in states, only with the roles of left and right reversed.  Trump said that he'd consider running as an independent if he doesn't get the nomination.  If that happens, I'd bet my last dollar on a Democratic government, no matter who they choose to run.  With Trump as an independent, the right vote will be split between him and the Republican candidate, basically guaranteeing a democratic victory.
