naknak Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 In another irritating surprise from Valve, any items you receive in a trade that's on-hold will count against your maximum backpack size.Example: you have 500 slots, 400 items, and a single held trade of your <whatever> for their 100 keys. You will be able to receive trade offers (so it's a little different than a standard "backpack full" condition) but not accept them. It will error immediately. edit: the first version of this post blamed outgoing items, but it's actually incoming items that count against your limits. See my post below for details. edit2 / shameless plug: to know how many slots are used up by held items, get yourself the latest version of The History Bastard
Buy my mixtape fam Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 Wow. You'd think they'd have perfected the system before implementing it, considering how many people dislike it. /s
Zapperzz Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 REMOVE ESCROW Thanks for the PSA, someone should update the trade offer error thread with this new error. Do you know what number error they give for this?
Weedoof Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 Do you know what number error they give for this? Seems to me like they'd just use the old 'inventory full' error, whatever number it is. I think 15.
3.50 Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 Wow. You'd think they'd have perfected the system before implementing it, considering how many people dislike it. /s I think they handled it all right, considering that outgoing items on hold could still be cancelled, whereupon they'd need those slots to return to...so there could be issues if outgoing items didn't count towards your max. Like items disappearing into thin air forever, even. Counting outgoing items and letting offers come in, but not letting you accept them, seems like a decent solution (although they should probably be a little more clear about when you can't accept them), but meh.

It was partially a joke. While it is semi-flawed, there's really no better way of preventing it. Imagine if your inventory suddenly goes to 450, and a trade comes out of escrow where you're getting 100 keys. But yeah, I'd say they should at least let offers come in
naknak Posted December 29, 2015 Author Posted December 29, 2015 Thanks for the PSA, someone should update the trade offer error thread with this new error. Do you know what number error they give for this? Just tested it a little. Test 1, 1877/2000 slots occupied; 61 outgoing items and 24 incoming items on hold, accepting a 64 item trade succeeds (so outgoing items don't count, contrary to what I said at first). Test 2, sending a 40-item offer with 1941 slots occupied and 24 incoming items: offer cannot be sent, fails with descriptive error Test 3: receiving a 40-item offer with 1941 slots occupied and 24 incoming items: offer is received from sender but accepting it fails with error 25:
