[Unactive Account] Posted December 14, 2015 Posted December 14, 2015 Recently I was watching the lottos on Sweepstakes when suddenly I noticed something fishy afoot. A scammer that is banned from this website but not Steamrep offered 5 KEYS if someone gave him the name of the capital of michigan. The person who won the 5 KEYS is now banned on Backpack.tf. Multiple scammers are offering these prizes and other scammers or people associated with the scammers are reporting them for "trading with a known scammer". Sweepstakes unfortunately doesn't use Steamrep as a way to ban people. Sweepstake profile don't even give you valuable info on each person. If someone is offering a prize for answering a question. Do not post your trade url. do not trade with them.

Baloo Posted December 14, 2015 Posted December 14, 2015 Any related links to confirm this? Also lol, where are they getting their kicks by giving someone ~$10 just to have them potentially marked. Who wins there?
Katzz Posted December 14, 2015 Posted December 14, 2015 I know that Its just a warning. for people who use SWEETSTAKES Thnx for the warning.
[Unactive Account] Posted December 14, 2015 Author Posted December 14, 2015 Any related links to confirm this? Also lol, where are they getting their kicks by giving someone ~$10 just to have them potentially marked. Who wins there? Unfortunately i didn't think to screenshot the events. but I just wanted to give out a warning. I know who one of the scammers is who did one of these giveaways. He is a steam wallet scammer. But he isn't banned on steamrep. he is only banned on backpack.tf
Baloo Posted December 14, 2015 Posted December 14, 2015 Alright, so you're saying you can't find any of the related information? How were you able to find out the user was supposedly banned on backpack.tf?
[Unactive Account] Posted December 14, 2015 Author Posted December 14, 2015 Alright, so you're saying you can't find any of the related information? How were you able to find out the user was supposedly banned on backpack.tf? I had to copy paste his name and google search it. http://backpack.tf/trust/76561198110935367
Baloo Posted December 14, 2015 Posted December 14, 2015 Alright, so if you remember his name, then why don't you post it here or better yet, his backpack.tf profile? It would do better to know who is committing it in order to better avoid him. I just find this highly likely to be false because scammers usually tend to scam for profit. To hand out $10 just to get someone banned is trivial. Especially when they could still be profiting from doing sales with the person instead. I know Cranwell used to do trades with people and then report them after he got marked, that's what I'd more likely expect from scammers rather than essentially spending $10 of their own money to have someone marked.

But I am not making this up. I believe they are trying to mark people who don't know what they are getting themselves into
Space~ Posted December 14, 2015 Posted December 14, 2015 Yea, there is this guy with a magikarp prof pic, his name is usually "I have bad luck" or like that. He is on sweetstakes often
λngelღмander Posted December 14, 2015 Posted December 14, 2015 If he sends you a trade offer containing 5 keys, you can then find their profile easily and search their steamrep. Anyone making trades with scammers is negligent at some level, as it is possible to find someone's steamrep via their URL.

AFFIRMATIVE Posted December 14, 2015 Posted December 14, 2015 The only problem is, is that he isn't marked on steamrep. He is only banned on backpack.tf Their steamrep profile has links below to nearly all major trading websites, its an extra one click effort to check them out and see if they are banned or have anything suspicious to come on a conclusion to not trade with them.

Sweetstakes doesn't have that sadly. It only show the profile. There are no links to other profiles on other sites
The Oddball Posted December 14, 2015 Posted December 14, 2015 Sweepstakes autobans marked scammers from entering pots. This does NOT prevent them from talking in chat. Always check EVERY trade to see if the user applicable is a marked scammer. Sweetstakes or not. When you see the trade offer from them, you can check their steam profile, and from there their steamrep.
The Recluse Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 someone say sweepstakes again. i will wait for someone who can both read and write at a fourth grade level or higher before forming an opinion.
