The Oddball Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 Just make notes saying you won't trade anyone with trade holds
Spirit Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 Hello, Solution - Wait 3 days, Sell it on bp.tf automatic for full price. The End, Thank You, Spirit
Budi Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 Desktop Authenticator? You are missing the boat. He doesn't need this, he has the mobile activated already. Honestly, this is about the earlier post. Either we are all forced to wait the 3 days, or post in big fuck you capital letters to everyone that we won't trade with them unless they have the mobile authentication on. It's going to create a huge schism of trading between mobile and non-mobile users.
Bobby Hill Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 Eventually people will get the hint once they keep having trade holds and most people will have it.
Budi Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 Eventually people will get the hint once they keep having trade holds and most people will have it. Honestly I'm not so sure. I could see this decreasing trade volume substantially. This could just make people turn to the SCM instead or stop trading altogether that can't get a mobile phone w/sms and the app or don't know how to run the desktop version.

This is just not the way to go about it.
krawtch Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 is Steam Trading Escrow some type of anagram for Get a job you stupid nerds orrrrr...
Flaming Eagle Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 Eventually people will get the hint once they keep having trade holds and most people will have it. There are people (Myself included) who cannot put it on for various reasons and have no choice but to deal with this problem. Honestly I'm not so sure. I could see this decreasing trade volume substantially. This could just make people turn to the SCM instead or stop trading altogether that can't get a mobile phone w/sms and the app or don't know how to run the desktop version. It probably will. I'm of the belief that this is a side reason that this is a thing.... it helps out Valve. There's also me, who has a mac and cannot yet run the desktop version, nor can do anything with the mobile number because I am a minor under my parents' jurisdiction (I also have an application lock and the one who has the key literally is anti-Steam).
Gren Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 Honestly I'm not so sure. I could see this decreasing trade volume substantially. This could just make people turn to the SCM instead or stop trading altogether that can't get a mobile phone w/sms and the app or don't know how to run the desktop version. I think it will definitely increase SCM traffic and thin out the "traditional" trader population. But I don't really care. Anything that is marketable, I sell on SCM already, since it moves 10x faster there than it does on OP or classifieds, etc. The only thing I use the traditional channels for now are unusuals (mind you I don't trade in high volume at all anymore), because that still seems to be more efficient than the SCM route (I think it's because people in general will trade a $100 hat for another much more readily than they will spend 100 actual dollars on a hat.....when they see actual dollar values coming out of an account, they [we] begin to realize the insanity of trading pixels). The people I prefer to deal when trading hats most likely have a smart phone, or if they don't, they're serious enough to consider switching phones which should be cheap enough these days almost anywhere on the planet.
1+1=3 ? Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 Honestly I'm not so sure. I could see this decreasing trade volume substantially. This could just make people turn to the SCM instead or stop trading altogether that can't get a mobile phone w/sms and the app or don't know how to run the desktop version. Most of the people get a mobile phone right? I am not sure how many steam users are without a mobile but I am sure those who without a mobile phone are usually the kids. People adapt to the email confirmation things quick. I am pretty sure those who have the mobile phone can adapt to the change. This will most likely affect those stupid quickbuying bots which will only bring more competition. Trade volume will definitely drop but not substantially. Edit: Most of the people who complain about this policy own a trading bot or have a tag of |trade.tf because of the free trading bot.
Mrs TS Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 It isnt like people cant wait 3 days to get their stuff. Yeesh.

The One Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 It isnt like people cant wait 3 days to get their stuff. Yeesh. 3 days is a long time. It makes trading so much more incredibly inefficient.
Spirit Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 Hello, I will be Trading Cosmetics Automatically on Backpack.tf Buying/Selling on the classified listings. I should be up and running within couple hours, less than a day. Obviously trading will be instant for users who meet requirements (At least 7 days of Mobile Authentication + Trade Confirmations ON) And trading will be a 3 day wait for people who do not meet requirements. I will trade all users not just Authenticated ones, even tho there is a method of identifying. It is very true that holds will be quite frequent at the moment because users either do not or wont meet requirements right away as those of us who are prepared. We can expect hold to get less frequent and people just having to deal with them, since if they do not and cancel a hold they are punished by the 7 day trade ban. Thank You, Spirit
Tasty Salamanders Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 Semi-related to the topic; it turns out you can still be screwed by Escrow even if you have mobile authentication and only trade with authenticated people because it seems that the Steam App will for some reason decided to completely forget your account and force you to wait another week before you can do instant trades.

Happened to me. Had to reset a few minutes ago.

Tasty Salamanders Posted December 12, 2015 Posted December 12, 2015 Hello, So this was not the result of you canceling a trade that is on hold? Thank You, Spirit No, cancelling a trade that is on hold gets you trade banned for a week + you have to cancel all the trades you have on hold. All my trade holds are still pending, I have not cancelled any of them and no one has cancelled on me (two of them are Scrap.tf bots, I would be amazed it geel went and cancelled on me). The issue exactly is that the App just went and completely forgot me. No idea why. I didn't sign out of the App and I didn't even turn off the device, just one moment I was logged in and the next -*poop* completely forgotten. Someone else in this thread complained about this happening to them today, as did someone else on the Steam forum, and someone else on geel's current poll also complained about it happening to them the other day. So it turns out that it doesn't matter if you use mobile authentication, because it seems Valve will just force you to restart the waiting period anyhow.
