Hey, I got a small question, Do you guys have any expectations for what will come cuz of Escrow? Should I be scared?

Hopefully a lot of people will panicsell, slower trading for the next month, people realizing that you get use a desktop app just to bypass the trade cooldown period, kiddies still getting scammed, Valve realizing that this won't change that much & finally make it optional to keep on.

Edit: that was probably a bad way to word the kiddies getting scammed segment, what I meant was "kiddies getting scammed on the usual rate"

The end of phishing. I await it eagerly

Phishing adds will stop within a week, panic sells and cashing outs, keys inflate to 20+ ref and will trickle down over the next 6 months.

Hopefully that will happen, I did just cash out for my new pc, left ~55 keys or so left in my inv (csgo) would be cool if we could get that opition to turn it off.

also, its gonna rain cows and headwarmers when escrow comes out.

I personally don't think much will happen. Maybe the odd mega quicksell or something, but the sane majority of traders will know not to change anything.

What will happen is that scm usage will be even more frequent than it already is.  Trading has been taking steps to move away from human interaction for a long time now.  Personally, I think it's for the best.  I'd much rather deal with automated systems than be stuck having to talk to most of the dickwads and morons out there.  All that said, valve will gain a lot from the extra scm usage.  Part of me begrudges them for it.

Im happy with my inventory as it is for now, i pretty much sold all the Hats i used to bank and got most of the Items i wanted for a long time.

But I'm sure they soon will realise that you can not shut down stupidity with escrow ^~^

For marketable items, probably not as much.  For unmarketable items or for people trying to avoid using the market... it depends.  But yes.  Yes I think that overall, non-market trading will slow down a lot for the majority of items, but I'm only guessing.  Still, I think it's a fairly safe bet.

I would also say it is possible that people without authenticators will be forced to offer better prices because that will make it worth waiting 3 days, while people with authenticators will try to jack up their prices for the conveniance of being able to trade quickly with them.  Those with rarer items may even jack up their prices higher if they have an authenticator and you do not, because you are the one forcing them to wait the 3 days.  If this happens, it might have a very disruptive effect on non-market prices.  In a way, I think it could open the door for profiting out of bigger price ranges, but might make the value of specific items little more uncertain.

In the end, for overall conveniance in speed of transactions, less hassle, less effort, and the easier ability to judge the value of items, it will just make the market even more of a dominant gold standard of trading than it already has become so far.  Normal trading will probably end up being much more cutthroat, volatile, risky and difficult, but ironically will probably end up still having an even larger room for profit not in spite of these things, but because of them.  I hope that makes sense to you.

This is all just speculation.

I am also going to say that I think all of this will probably make traders into even bigger assholes than they already are.

Of course if everyone uses an emulator or geel's app, then only newbies will have to deal with the 3 day holding period, and things might simply continue as normal.  But it's possible that valve will start to see this as a threat at some point and either make it hard or impossible to use this method, or start banning people who do.
