this is most of my accepted non reconfirmation unusual pricings within the past 3 weeks or so.

up=I am raising price

down=I am lowering price

the # before the up or down is percentage of upvotes.

UP: 79, 73, 80, 75

DOWN: 98, 98, 92, 91, 96, 98, 100, 91, 95, 95, 92

Conclusions from my data: (only my suggestions)

1. I am better at lowering unusual prices than raising them

2. People dislike unusuals going up and prefer unusuals going down

3. this is not enough data.

Thoughts?

it's not just you. the community loves to vote "down" adjustments. getting things up is much harder.

i think it must be like a have/have not thing.

It's not just you. I have been moderating unusual hat prices for nearly a year and the community almost always votes up the lowering of a price, while having a tendency to vote down the raising of a price. I won't pretend to know why they do that, but I imagine it has something to do with the fact that most community members don't have much wealth so the raising of a price may be displeasing psychologically on some level.

I have noticed that the bias in votes is much less today than it was months ago, but it's still there to a noticeable degree. It was really bad 9 months ago. Raising the price of an unusual hat was like pulling teeth back then. Perhaps the community has gotten wealthier on average since then?

Yep, I've noticed that too. It gets especially bad when you try raising the price on what's viewed as a bad hat. Try raising the price on an unusual coupe and you're lucky if you break 70%, no matter the proof offered.

It's why I've gotten a lot pickier about accepting price drops around unusuals, regardless of votes. A very easy way to get positive votes when suggesting an unusual price drop is just to list a bunch of rejected offers and set a range around them. Or to set the top range to the buyout of a freshly made trade while pointing out that it 'hasn't sold'. Then I get to feel like a jerk for closing an 80%+ upvoted suggestion. Though the commenting community has similarly gotten better at pointing out when this kind of thing is happening- doesn't change the end votes, but stil.

Well, it makes perfect sense why it happens...

People expect items to go down in value as time goes on....So, it would make perfect sense for unusuals to drop in value (rather than increase).

So, the comments are better now, but the votes aren't? Why would unusuals drop in value?

As more unusuals enter the market its only natural for the price to drop...Also, the new effects have been dropping in value for quite some time now.

However, the multiplier backpack.tf applies to their BP means that they can't vote on something they can't afford. Why would then the non-rich members find it displeasing?

Well, if they can barely afford the hat, then raising the price to something above the worth of their entire backpack might be displeasing. Someone with a backpack worth 2.5 buds total will probably not like seeing a Plasma Trilby be raised from 2.5 buds to 3 buds.
