  1. 1. Are they powerful?

    • Yes, they can overrule the governments.
      2
    • Meh, they can take down government websites and release private info, but nothing else.

    • No, they are simply little boys who hide behind their computer screen, rather than actually getting up and doing something,

Honestly, I don't really care. They've done some good, yeah, like take down kiddie porn websites.

But they seem to be like those tin-hat conspiracy theorists, with very one-sided beliefs.

Thoughts?

But the question still remains:

Saying they can overrule governments because they can boot their websites offline? Ha. No. Said government can retaliate much worse, with you know guns and stuff. Stuff that cause actual harm rather than the inability to look at the FBI website for a day.

Debra is in the anonymous

he is lying to make us think they cant do that

as a kinda off topic note, if the illumiatle is real and the new world order, I would love for anonymous to take them down lol

I feel like reliveing government info can be pretty bad and affect the government and the country

also they are pretty good people with taking down illegal porn websites and other websites

I can't watch.

Their arguments can't be proven or disproven so it goes nowhere.

And yeah people can hack things. Have you seen War Games?

There aren't enough of them to overrule jack shit.

No one really cares about them, they only make the news because it makes for great headlines: "anonymous hacks [insert government website] website".

Honestly all they can do is sit down on a chair, hide behind a screen, and take down a website for a couple hours.

See the problem with their popularity and videos like the one OP linked is that they say what people want to hear, how everyone's problems are only caused by the government, but what people don't realize is this: they present a "problem" but they NEVER present a solution. Example: they make a 1 hour video of problems but no real solutions.

what is this, 2007?

In today's world, the biggest online threats are massive overbearing government surveillance and rogue groups from places like Russia and China breaching company and government data. Not some group of kids on 4chan who haven't done anything newsworthy in half a decade.

The power of anonymous is truly scary. Oh wait you mean the self-proclaimed organization?

But seriously, the origin of 'Anonymous' is simply the idea of not having a name. All this Anonymous Taking Down .gov Sites OMGGG shit is because of some idiots who decided that being anonymous was cool. The irony is, they aren't anonymous anymore. They have a name. If you don't know who they are, they have power. If they claim to be the L33T LEGION ECKS DEE they have a name and you know that much about them, which is enough to give you no power.

Think of it like this.

  • A whole globe with scattered users who don't have a identity take down multiple unrelated sites due to something they don't agree with. That's scary.
  • A group of cyber-terrorists who call themselves Potassium who take down a single site they don't agree with. That's not scary.

Why is it so?

Simple, a collection of people with no apparent agenda is a hell of a lot more unpredictable than a entity with a clear agenda. And we as humans fear the unpredictable.

So to answer your question, they have virtually no power. Because the anonymous you are talking about is just a bunch of greasy 14 year olds.

Spoiler xD ecks dee DDD

Imo whilst they have done quite a bit in the past (permanently taking down child porn sites, westbro church websites, revealed info which helped in many police cases...etc) right now I fail to see how hacking government websites taking them down for a few hours does anything other than have a headline for half a day and then be forgotten soon after.

More meaningful hacks...etc would make them the "threat" they once were, right now it's kinda pitiful...
