Thoughts on steam leveling?

I personally leveled to 50 to get the effect that Bob said. It's a fact, the higher the level the more likely someone will accept your add and a higher chance they'll take you more seriously than some level 3 person adding them.

You can put more showcases, and you can fit more friends on your friends list, I think its 5 or 10 per 10 levels

I dont think of lv 20 and lv 100 people different at all in reputability. I just think of the lv 100 guy as a idiot for spending so much money on a number.

Will I not rest till I get level 69?

yes

Careful, every year you will be getting some XP for having your Steam account another year older.

I do have a slight bias toward lower level accounts, at least until I have actually talked or traded with the user. To me a higher Steam level shows some effort was put into the account and that the person should know more about trading and TF2 in general or whatever game. Of course this is not always the case. Does this affect who I trade with? Very rarely. It's really just the user's preference.

i've seen alot of scammers with high levels so it doesn't help rep, i guess it's a neat counter to show how much money you've spent

Eh, to me it seems like a pointless precaution. I have seen plenty of scammers going up to level 50.

Is steam leveling worth the money/time? Is there a use to have a higher steam level except to show off?

1. Showcases. You get a new showcase every 10 levels up to level 140.

2. More friends. 5 new friends every level.

3. If you have a higher level, the chance is higher your invite gets accepted.

4. Something alot of people forget is that you get a higher booster pack chance.

Personal:

I also like to be on top of my friends steam list if that makes any sense. There is a higher chance people will go onto your profile where you can advertise a service/trade.

I get added once in a while by someone asking me to buy something with paypal even though I don't have a trade up. Which means people believe you are more reputable (you can also see this negatively because you'll get more often added by 'noobs').

if I have some unfilled card sets and extra money in my steam wallet, I might as well level up. It's fun I guess.

In my opinion, it's pointless.

I just did it up to level 20 because then I could show off some stuff and be more trusted by players, but it really doesn't affect much as long as you aren't level 0

Objectively speaking yes it's pointless.

That's not gonna stop me from making a fine looking profile anyway.

'Sides, it's pretty easy to get to a higher level, especially when the sales come around and people are dumping all their extra cards and stuff to get those few extra cents.
