Seeing as there is a lot of anger flowing around scrap.tf recently, both for the staff and site itself, I thought making a topic to try getting everyone's opinion in to one place, may not be an awful idea.

Obviously, try not to get out of hand and attempt to keep it serious if you wish to write a more in detail reply.

No clue why some people dislike scrap.tf? Check this. https://www.reddit.com/r/tf2/comments/3f30xj/the_scraptf_incident_tf2g_and_how_this_impacts_you/

really couldn't care less, the site is nice for buying shamans but is not necessary at all to trading

the site and staff members can ban anyone for whatever reason they want

Considering there was a raffle that randomly banned 5 people, thats just dumb.

Just awful all around

OH and while Geel is a dank memer, hes so unprofessional and just bans people for no reason its unreal

As someone who likes to speak professionally like a staff member but is not actually part of the staff, I would like to remind everyone that statements like "they are bronies" or "he's a 12 year old" are not valid reasons for arguing that the staff members are "awful," "bad," or any negative adjective. Such excuses are as meaningless as "+rep good trader" comments on Steam Community profiles.

If you wish to make a statement about anything, you should always provide evidence or reasons as to why you choose to argue your case. Personal experiences like "Provided excellent assistance when I needed help" or "Ignored my requests for help" serve as excellent reviews, but personal opinions like "They are bronies and I hate bronies" or "We are good friends IRL" make you look stupid.

some of you forumers are just idiotic shit disturbers. What do u expect? we're all just a bunch of stupid teenagers. if you lash out at one another and dont expect an overreaction, its your fault for being dumb. just dont fuck around when it comes with scrap.tf. youve seen people get permad for dumb reasons so dont go do it yourself, you can give the admins shit for it or bitch about it more on the forums but theyll just laugh at you. its simple. dont fuck with people and they wont fuck with you.

Enjoy my valid review:

Positives:

Offers a amazing scrapbanking service.

Good UI.

Offers a near perfect raffling service. Great for smaller communities.

Plenty of different services.

Negatives:

The staff dont give a fuck and will just ignore you.

The price mod is non existent.

The staff ban for people they dislike.

Bots are always full.

It advertises gambling to young children/teenagers who shouldn't be gambling.

Rather than improve bad features they just throw more half assed features into the site.

The software used for the bots is really really really slow. It's very badly optimized.

Geel entered a raffle, said, "its rigging time" and won the raffle. That good enough for you?

The same thing could be said about TF2, CS:GO, Dota 2 and almost any Steam event.

*snipped harder than a Jewish circumcision*

I just spent 20 minutes fucking buying 2 dueling minigames. 17 of those minutes, the bots were full, and when the bots opened up for like 10 seconds, they were all filled with 1-2 duel games, but they don't tell you that until the fucking trade offer.

Fuck that shit.

Yeah but at least they don't advertise their service on a website with a target audience of young teenagers.

It may be easy money but it's on the same level as scamming.

the site is actually good but the amount of bronies is really high

I like using it, I have absolutely nothing against it

scrap.tf has A LOT of potential, but its biggest problem are the prices: all the bots are either empty or full

As far as I know, scrap.tf is a TF2 trading service, nothing more. I don't know about its target audience, but I believe it's visited by people playing TF2. If the majority of them are young teenagers, it's because TF2 is mostly played by younger people. So I don't really see the difference here: why is it ok for Valve to advertise their cash grab methods among the same community (there are pop-up ads about new keys/cases, badge crafting etc.) when others are looked down for it? I mean you still get something from unboxing/crafting, but you could lose a lot of money in the end, and Valve won't give a shit if you're an adult with a well-paying job or just a clueless 12 year old kid.

The site itself I actually like, It's easy and pretty quick to use (mostly).

However in regards to the staff my feelings are mixed, on one side I think I can understand that some of the scrap.tf staff are somewhat abused for who they are and would probably be a lot easier to deal with if it wasn't that way. However the main thing Is that I think some of the positions of power should not be moderating the site. For example Jessecar is one of the devs that has helped work on the site and done a really good job, that being said Jessecar was put in a position of power not by any sort of moderator application or test. Therefore I think that Jesse often deals with bans and reports poorly in comparison to some of the other mods such as moonie and Pascal. So, in this case, Jesse should stick to whatever he does behind the scenes best and not act like the chief mod guy.

The communication of the mods could be greatly improved as well as they often seem unhappy to help, take jokes incredibly badly and far too trigger happy on the ban button. A simple message before you ban someone to tell them to fix their act is a much more effective way than straight up banning them.

e,g I was banned for improper use of the "About me" section. Nothing abusive but nothing about me. A simple message to tell me to remove it would of worked fine.

TL:DR

meh, site is great. mods have a comfy amount of room for improvement.

Would you be happy if your child was watching cartoon network and a advert played advertising gambling websites?

Are they advertising SweetStakes.tf on Cartoon Network? I thought we're talking about scrap.tf, which is still a TF2 trading site. And gambling is a huge part of TF2 itself.

The target audience is clearly young teenagers, it uses bright colours, simplistic icons, easy to understand interface, font appeals to children etc etc etc

From personal experience, I do find great use from the sites services; The hat bots have helped me greatly when finding items with certain levels, I've used the weapons bots quite frequently, and the raffles have helped me find small profit here and there. In regards to the staff however, I find how they handle criticisms and responsibility to their mistakes quite unprofessional; although there are instances of people purposely trying to instigate the staff that justifies them taking action, there are also too many times where they come off as immature and power hungry, especially when it comes to those they dislike. And geels actions do not help in this; as a site owner, when you choose to act immaturely and choose not to care about your users, that image also reflects onto your site, and in turn to those who work under you.
