Bronies: What exactly are they and what do you think of them?

I wonder why freaks of the pokemon fandom don't get the same hate.

Uh, because pokemon is an enormous game franchise aimed at children and adults, whereas my little pony is a television show for little kids? (though sexual stuff in either of these arenas is weird imo)

And to answer the thread: I find fandoms in general a bit strange/obsessive, and sexual fandoms surrounding things like my little pony or anime mildly creepy. I don't really think that much about it when people don't make threads about it though.

I played with my little pony dolls when I was a little kid, I played sonic on the megadrive. It's bizarre to me to see fandoms around this stuff, but that's the internet for you... I am supremely grateful that it was not as all-encompassing when I was a kid/young teenager, so I played some sonic and watched some mlp and never thought about either of those things when I wasn't actively doing them.

When I have kids they're not getting bloody computers until they can buy them for themselves, lol.

I go to University of New South Wales which a somewhat prestigious university in Australia (dunno about rank in relation to the world probably shit).

We have a MLP society. It is legitimately a society which takes up rooms and money from the university so they can gather around and watch MLP every week. No joke.

Normally I wouldnt mind but there were newer societies which were focused on actual problems (eg: helping students find internships, jobs and organising judging panels with people from the industry...etc) which were unable to get any funding because of groups like them.

Well yes but that's just people being dicks and uni's being stupid. I'm not so sure bronies as a group are to blame. I have no clue why they would get any funding but if I were in a group that got offered funding whilst actually not really deserving it I'd accept it anyway because who doesn't want free money? The blame lies with the uni, not the people from what I know

I'm just going to say this:

I'm sickened by the fact that my 5 year old little sisters can't safely look up "My Little Pony" in google

I get it, you like what you like, different people like different things, but it goes way too far in the MLP fandom

Thats just furries

I have to say it, considering it will happen at some point

90% of bronies i wouldn't touch with a 30 foot pole with a pointy rock coated in 1.5 mol/L-1 Sulfuric Acid tied to the end.

Yes, my own fandom makes me cringe

But i just ignore the cringe moments as best i can, solves everything for me

A good thing is though is that Hasbro has strictly made it apply to the younger demographic as opposed to us, to which i give a hearted clap to. Ep 100 was the only violation of this rule and i haven't watched it yet

P.S The conventions are stupid. Seriously, i don't think it's appropriate for shows like MLP. Nor the marketing, but, everything is marketable in today's world :|

Two things

1. You go to UNSW?! o.O

2. Why are people being paid to watch MLP what kind of use does that do ._. I thought UNSW knew a casually bit better

ugh

fnaf fanbase/fandom

rule 34 is there

The main difference between FnaF and MLP is that FnaF was never targeted towards children, no matter how you try to skewer it. Now I'm not saying I approve of the pornographic fanart in either fanbase, or that FnaF hasn't attracted an underage audience, but FnaF was always labeled a horror game, unlike MLP which is a major brand targeted at children, particularly girls.

Imo what you do in your private time is your business, and whatever gets you off is your also your business. However, it's ludicrous to assert that the more extreme parts of the fandom and the MLP hating trolls have not done damage to MLP for girls. There are sadly many people who's sole intent is to make others feel bad, and will purposely make sure porn and grossly violent content gets into the searches and into other sites. I can also tell you that adults often ruin the MLP toys section at my Target, in fact for several months around Christmas time we frequently had adults coming in just to tamper with all the MLP toys. They would open all the surprise bag figures, write obscene things on the boxes, cut up plushies, etc. It got bad enough that we had to have a security officer by the toys section at all times, and installed a second camera just to watch that aisle. It was a sad sight, really.

Our ban list got hilariously long, too.

Still, do whatever you want so long as it doesn't bother others, is my motto. If you just wanna be a fan of something, you do you.

You're all completely right. Rabid bronies are an absolute pain in the tit.

I just like 'em because they're cute. I don't view it any differently to pokemon, really, in that regard.

But at least we're not the Sonic fandom

B-B-B-But, Im cuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuute DDD:

Funnily enough just yesterday my school mate was on Cringechannel which told him to type "X the Hedgehog" into google images and watch what comes up, and we (my group of mates and "mates") all laughed at the fact it was some of the most erk things we've read and seen, if you want to know rabid then, well, that o.O

I just had to. I'm an ex brony, but I still keep up with the pictures a little.

I don't really see the need to call themselves bronies.

I love the show scrubs but I don't go around calling myself a scrub.

With that joke out of the way, I don't really mind them as long as they don't act obnoxious.

As long as you don't hurt anyone you should enjoy whatever you like. Who cares what other people thinks of you on the internet?
