Simply asking because im not sure if i should invest in a higher tier unusual or a bunch of lower tier ones to sell off later on.

Lower valued unusuals have a much much broader range of potential buyers and pricing sites such as backpack.tf actually have decent prices for them and the hats you are likely to be offered.

Generally speaking the higher the tier the more trading becomes reliant on expertise and experience and the longer a particular sale takes with the exception of a few truly in-demand hats such as burning tc's which sell surprisingly fast

Downgrading is a pretty good way to make profit. If someone really likes a hat, they may be willing to overpay a lot in low tier hats.

Low- to mid-tiers for sure.  Market is much bigger, if you wait around long enough, you can get your BO in pure (or close enough anyway) usually, or at least an offer with good overpay.  My favourite combination btw are low-to mid-tier hats with desireable effects (so Burning/Scorching/Energies/AF/RA and a few others).  If these are priced right, they'll sell quickly and often for pure.   Also the risk is much lower for you when you stick to low tier trading, say you fuck up on a trade, maybe you lost 2 or 3 keys - whatever, no big deal, you'll make it back fast.  However when you fuck up in high tier trading, it could end up costing you quite a bit.

low tiers are the easiest, but if you get a high demand mid-high tier it can be nice and you could make profit faster using that
