GTA IV Worth Buying At This Point?

Hey guys, I've been strongly considering picking up GTA IV from the Humble Bundle Spring Sale, but I've been hearing some horror stories about the port for PC.

Does anyone here have any experience with this, and if so, is it worth getting the game regardless of the issues with Windows Live?

What are your pc specs?

OS: Windows 7 64-bit

Processor: Intel Pentium CPU B960 2.20 GHz

RAM: 4 GB

Graphics: Intel HD Graphics (kind of scary, I know)

For reference, I can run Dead Space 2 on medium settings with no noticeable lag.

I'm not really concerned with whether my computer will run it or not though.

What I'm worried about is that a lot of people claim that the game itself is unplayable because of the required Windows Live login which apparently has a habit of just flat out not working sometimes.

Not sure about the windows live part, haven't played since it stopped being supported. But with those specs it would be unenjoyable to play in my opinion

Really doesn't matter how good your PC is, GTA4 finds a way to run like ass regardless.

Last time I booted it up for Carmageddon joy a few months ago, it still had Windows Live crap attached to it.

With that CPU and GPU I wouldn't even bother

I saw someone say that that works, but it creates issues with saving.

Have you had any problems with that?

No not at all. Everytime it just asks me to sign into Windows Live, I just press the escape key and bam im good to go.

As long as it requires Windows Live to play the multiplayer, I won't buy it.

It's awful. Unless you plan on modding it, don't bother,

A bunch of people got banned for modding the game.  Many of them claimed that they only used mods in single-player, which is not supposed to get you a ban, but they got banned anyway.

It doesn't matter. Online is dead. The only reason to play at this point is to play single player, which you can play without Windows Live.

Well it's been a couple days guys, so sorry for the late response here.

I ended up not wanting to take the risk and went with Saints Row The Third, which has been a lot of fun so far.

Thanks for all of your opinions/recommendations!

Well, the settings have to be pretty low, but yeah, it runs alright and actually looks fine as well, even on the lower graphics settings.

GTA 4 is a great game, but it's good you went with Saints Row.

GTA's optimization has to be some of the shittiest (RUNNING IT AT LOW still gives me unusual frame drops) and is a HUGE RAM hog (~1GB in an average scenario)

He may have been talking about optimization mods. Gta 4 was unplayable for me unless I modded it to work correctly. And it still wasn't that great.

I ended up having to buy it for my xbox because this was such a hassle for me back then.
