TIL TF2tp ban people with 0 proof

"Aw, man! I was so totally about to give PPM SR authority! For real, I sure was but then you went and hired d0. Oh, no! For real, I was keeping it a secret surprise that I was going to suddenly bestow upon you."

"Why would you tell me that? If I'm supposed to demonstrate that I both want and deserve (in your opinion) that then you should wait for that to happen."

"Oh yeah but it's just so really disappointing now. It really truly was, for sure, going to happen. You could have all of this magical internet authority. All that you've got to do is just get rid of that person. Most groups have to demonstrate or be willing to demonstrate acceptable (to me) behaviour first but not in this special case. I'm just going to go ahead and offer this to you without you asking. ;)"

In my report on FoG, if I may, About half way through, Almost all of the posts made in my defense were removed, without any mention of purpose made, and this would be fine if they hadn't also left the posts against me completely untouched. Same with you, it almost seems like steamrep is out to get people.

Just saying, those posts were made by me. Confirming removal of defense.

- Didn't read report or any convo's

- Fully rely on SR without reading anything about the incident.

This is exactly why it's so shitty, SR can do w/e they want because they got trust from some people. It's like saying "tf2tp mod team decisions are always le 100% correct" - Then link post #3 and everyone who got trust by them will be lost... If screenshots of Mattie's conversation and how shitty they deal with things their reputation and trust will be lost, or should at least.

Sourcerep was a nice idea, just executed poorly.

Aye I agree, I'm working with a team right now to come up with something, hopefully a new site will be up sometime soon.

Work with the community and not a team, you'll get better input and less of a chance it'll end up like steamrep

Cough

Kinda hard to donate to a site that currently doesn't exist. :3

Just remember that the camel is a horse designed by committee.

Summary of this thread - tf2tp can't read. SR ban people they dislike or w/e reason they got. Friends with SR get several extra chances. SR lies.

Please, don't mix up tf2op or bp.tf with these things. As I never had any issues with tf2op or bp.tf, they do some mistakes but mainly correct them or simply learn from the mistakes.

So when is SR gonna wake the fuck up and people actually understand the system and the people behind is trying to fuck up communties and people they don't have interest in?

This will only stop once a major site like BP or OP officially disaffiliates itself from SR, i.e. seizes to acknowledge SR as the highest authority in TF2 trading.   Then, others will follow.  Until then, we live under SR as the ultimate authority.

Just remember that the camel is a horse designed by committee.

wtf does that mean...

camels are particularly good examples of successful adaptation to difficult environments and (i think) you're trying to make a point about not 'designing by committee'? this whole analogy doesn't work at all.

to address the point i think you're making: so we throw teamwork out the window and make one person in charge of designing this new system/get another elite cabal like SR? definitely not a good basis for a reputable site.

Learn to Proverb.

Also please reread my comment. I did not criticize the idea of a new system, I merely pointed out that compromising due to many varied inputs can lead to a suboptimal outcome. On top of that, having a team lead a site which literally dictates who is reputable in the TF2 trading community will automatically become a cabal - maybe not as corrupt or 'elite', as you put it, in the sense that SteamRep is, but that's besides the point. There is no perfect solution. Additionally, any site with Venom at its head is 'definitely not a good basis for a reputable site', to quote you directly (I'm sorry to bring this up if you're reading this Venom, I have nothing against you, but a mark isn't something that can be ignored).

I've been watching SR all those years I've been trading,  with a disgust.

  • Admins with completely no manners at all, they don't respect most of the users.
  • Poorly investigated reports.
  • They don't pay attention to minor reports.
  • They are always whining about how they don't have much admins to take care of the site, so why the fuck not to hire some?

We seriously need an alternative already, SR has turned out to be akin to communism - nice in theory, absolute crap in practice. The people at the top just don't seem to care anymore, and if the community got behind a serious alternative initiative, I could see them being replaced. Either way, SR in 2011 >>>>> SR now.

Steamrep in the past was pretty sucessful, reports ddnt take long to process and if mistakes were made appeals were accepted pretty fast, it wasnt until when processing reports took months and if there was a mistake made it would take months to get back to you where the obvious problem rose up.

In the past it was actually a scammer database, if a user wasnt marked or had a report on them they were considered clean, now you have to look at reports on other communities, outpost, bp.tf...etc and then come to a final judgement especially since that large backlog meant that majority of scammers run loose. It wasnt until the more recent times where steamrep had begun to make blatantly glaring mistakes (deleting comments, admins doing questinoable things) where most people in tf2 began to legitimately hate steamrep and their high horse. I didnt believe that their admins would delete posts with evidence until a few of mine were deleted for "unwanted/unrelated posts", not sure how adding evidence to prove someone's innocence and highlighting inconsistency in a report is unwanted but whatever.

The point is that until major communities remove themselves from steamrep, acknowledging that they cant do the job we will still be under steamrep's control

Why don't we just riot to steamrep and just not use it anymore?

I'm sure a new site will come along which will NOT end up like SR.

EDIT : The only reason why were using it is looking for tags...

We can just make a generator which just does this.
