Squidling Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 So, this guy added me wanting to buy my aces high bonk boy. He agreed to the price on the condition that it isn't duped (it is not, i sent him links to prove it). But then he says he wants to see it in one of my friends inventories, just to prove that it doesn't change. I have heard of people being scammed in a similar way to this before, and he only has 3.5 hours in TF2. Is he a scammer?
jelly jiggler Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 scammer dont do it comon son obvious Im sure you dont know this but if even if you gave it to your friend it wouldnt show that it is duped or clean lol edit "friend"
♥Prof. Sugarcube♥ Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 Tell him to screw off then post it in Best Steam Conversations
Squidling Posted January 6, 2015 Author Posted January 6, 2015 Yeah, i had heard of someone falling for a trick where the scammer had someone impersonate the friend somehow, but after checking his steamrep and just thinking about it for a moment, he is definitely a scammer. I did know that it wouldn't change if i gave it to a friend, a fact that i pointed out to him. He said he just wanted to 'see it in someone elses backpack', i told him mine is fine. Anyway, i have cancelled the deal, thanks for your help

Squidling Posted January 6, 2015 Author Posted January 6, 2015 I kinda want to see how he would have tried the scam. Hmmm 06 January 2015 Squidling: You mean youll buy it as long as its clean? I dont have a problem with that, it is clean so it doesnt make a difference to me TF2 JCool <3: wait TF2 JCool <3: have a personal friend online now amte? TF2 JCool <3: that can help us both? TF2 JCool <3: a trusted friend of yours? Squidling: Umm, let me check TF2 JCool <3: ok tell me if you have one Squidling: Nobody is online atm, only a guy i met on a server and two friends on snooze, why? TF2 JCool <3: because Squidling: also, heres my backpack, just click on the unusual Squidling: http://www.tf2items.com/id/TheSquidInTheNorth TF2 JCool <3: is it ok if you let him hold your hat for a bit? i want to see your hat in his inventory if i can see it in his inventory that the unusual doesnt chnage. then i will be satisfied that its not a dupe TF2 JCool <3: because some item change after the trade. thats why i need to see it traded to another invenotry. TF2 JCool <3: is it fine mate? TF2 JCool <3: for a sec only? Squidling: Dupes dont change, mate. Im pretty sure that this is a scam, but that link coupled with backpack.tf is proof enough that it isnt duped Squidling: sorry man TF2 JCool <3: mate no TF2 JCool <3: it is TF2 JCool <3: some traders say item change after trade TF2 JCool <3: and i dont want that to happen to me Squidling: Why would it change? Do you want me to join a server so you can see it and the effect? TF2 JCool <3: i want him to hold your hat because some item change after the trade. so if i can see your at in his inventory and i didnot change so i will be satisfied. thats all TF2 JCool <3: is it fine mate? TF2 JCool <3: no risk cause your friend wil hold it TF2 JCool <3: not me
Squidling Posted January 6, 2015 Author Posted January 6, 2015 And, with a hat tip to sugarcube, he has been told in no uncertain terms where he should shove his trade. Thanks again, guys
~Dave~ Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 I think I saw that name somewhere before This guy wanted to do the same trick he did with OP with me yesterday. Avoid him like a plague.
mehhhhhh Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 https://www.google.com/search?q=tf2+scam+methods "Hmm, should I google this and get my answer in 5 seconds, or should I post on bp.tf forums and wait?"

"Hmm, should i let a solved post lie, or should i show everyone my obvious genius by posting a incredibly witty comment?" I had my suspicions, and i got an answer. I actually prefer hearing real people respond to me rather than googling it, i don't really care what you do

If they get permanently trade banned, that account would be effectively neutered.

I checked his steamrep almost immediately after i became more suspicious, and yeah, he has death sentences on twelve servers or something like that. I ought to report him to valve, but he'll probably just make a new account soon. Ah well, i think it was his actual account so i may as well ruin his day
Chaylella Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 Not even in unusual trading and I know it's a scam "see it in one of my friends inventories" Don't fall for it :c
Squidling Posted January 10, 2015 Author Posted January 10, 2015 Not even in unusual trading and I know it's a scam "see it in one of my friends inventories" Don't fall for it :c Nah, i didn't. He just seemed way too obsessed with seeing it in someone elses bp, and that set my alarm bells ringing. Thanks for your reply!
