They're literally the same. They're both made by big name brands, have nice cooling fans, are well built, etc. I chose EVGA because I personally own their 770. However, my friend has a windforce (gigabyte) 770 and loves it just as much as I love mine. I'd say pick which ever is cheaper or goes better with your build color scheme.

You can buy a 970 for $200 cheaper and it will run any game on max at 60+ fps. Hell, my 770 will run any game on max at 60+ and it isn't as good as the 970. You can use that $200 to buy whatever you wan't, you will eventually regret buying a 980, not kidding.

Although i tend to agree if money was the limitation Ive been given newegg credit for xmas and the only thing at this point I can upgrade is my card that will have a significant impact on gaming. Dont need any more (faster) ram, CPU is fine and over clocked. PSU is well above what i need, & plenty of storage + ssd(s). The case gets hot with dual 580s but going to a single cooler running card will aleviate that too. My CM quickfire rapid-i is on its way already. Theres nothing left to upgrade but my graphics card.

At this point its just to have the extra mile future proof card.

+ even if i sell my 2 580s at 100$ a pop it makes up the difference in price from the 970 to 980. Win-win IMO.

FYI, build color scheme is black on black with some more black. Both work behind a windowless black lian case. lol

Im done with SLI.

Alright, well, in my opinion it's not worth buying a top of the line card as they aren't offering that much bang for your buck, but if you need a 980, i'd say an asus strix, just to get that semi passive cooling.

The reason why people buy a single and greater card is because in the future as new cards come out the price will drop and they can pick up another for SLI. Also the more gpus you have the more heat generated/watts needed.
