If I try to open the file by standard double-click all I get is

"'node' is not recognized as an internal or external command,

operable program or batch file.
Press any key to continue . . ."

So I tried to open it as admin only to be greeted by this (the one in my first post) error. Keep in mind this is after the installation of the node program.

It turns out if you encounter the 'node is not a valid executable' error, you will have to restart your computer for Windows to recognize it's in your PATH. ELijah confirmed this.

I guess the "win" in the full package name didn't make it obvious it's not for mac ? Just type "npm install" after cloning the repository, delete whatever you have downloaded because that is for windows only.

Where do i type npm install o:

you need to open terminal and then browse to the folder you are cloning the repo into. A quick search on Google should get you started -- I will probably do an OS X package, I'm on a Mac so that should be easy...

Thanks for the help guys. I did manage to log in successfully, but what exactly am I supposed to enter when it requests a backpack.tf token? I try inserting the whole URL from my Settings page, then only the last few digits, but all I get an error saying "invalid input for backpack.tf token".

You'll need your backpack.tf token - go to your backpack.tf settings then click "Advanced" and your token will be in small grey text at the bottom of the box:

Update your access token for third party application support. Current token: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Sorry for this idiot question, but I don't know how to do it.

I know how to put for sale an item I have. But how can I put an order for buy an item? I don't see how to do that, and I see people with that orders in the items.

Thanks!

Similar to what at least one other person has mentioned, I've been getting some Steam Guard issues after running this for a while. Very oddly, it has blocked for a couple of hours across all my registered devices (with the "You have logged in from a new device. In order to protect the items in your inventory, old computer" message), then it is ok again. This is interspersed with the usual Steam trade fails - "You can not trade with X" etc.

I'd say for me trade success with the script is about 50% at the moment, most commonly erroring out with either:

11:19:12 - debug: offers: 0 pending, 0 new received.
11:20:12 - info: steam: 1 trade offer pending.
11:20:12 - debug: offers: 1 pending, 1 new received.
11:20:13 - info: [183300XXX] Checking offer from 765611980XXXXXXX...
11:20:13 - debug: offers: loading inventory: 401
11:20:15 - debug: offers: loading inventory: 401
11:20:16 - debug: offers: loading inventory: 401
11:20:17 - debug: offers: loading inventory: 401
11:20:19 - debug: offers: loading inventory: 401
11:20:20 - debug: offers: loading inventory: 401
11:20:22 - debug: offers: loading inventory: 401
11:20:23 - debug: offers: loading inventory: 401
11:20:24 - debug: offers: loading inventory: 401
11:20:26 - debug: offers: loading inventory: 401

(that time it went on for 6 hours until I restarted the script)

Or the other is the one that has come up a number of times in this thread:

17:54:34 - debug: offers: 0 pending, 0 new received.
17:55:30 - info: steam: 1 trade offer pending.
17:55:30 - info: [183574XXX] Checking offer from 765611981387XXXX...
17:55:31 - debug: Heartbeat sent to backpack.tf
17:55:32 - debug: offers: 1 pending, 1 new received.
17:55:35 - info: [183574XXX] Asked: 2 refined (Reclaimed Metal, The Cremator's Conscience). Offered: 2 refined
17:55:36 - error: [183574XXX] Error: Insufficient privileges accepting offer - refresing web cookies...
17:55:36 - info: Connecting to Steam Web...
17:55:37 - debug: steam: web authentication 403, retrying
17:55:39 - info: Offer handling ready.
17:55:40 - debug: Heartbeat sent to backpack.tf
17:55:40 - error: [183574195] Error: Insufficient privileges accepting offer - refresing web cookies...
17:55:40 - info: Connecting to Steam Web...
17:55:40 - debug: offers: 1 pending, 1 new received.
17:55:41 - debug: steam: web authentication 403, retrying

Which usually continues until the other party cancels the trade :( .

Is the retrying too aggressive? Steam trade offers seem fragile at best and I'm worried hammering it on occassion could be an issue.

Was dat sarcasm :c i just googled the mac equivalent.

Mac is already unix based so all you have to do is install node, download repository (not the windows package), unpack and run the necessary commands from terminal window:

npm install (this will take a while probably)

node bot.js

It's meant only for selling (trade offers matching your classifieds), not buying.

That debug loading 401 over and over indicates you're not running the proper node-steam-tradeoffers version -- please run npm install or download the full package if you're on windows to get the proper version. The insuficient privilege stuff seems to happen early on but clears up after a couple of days, steamguard weirdness..

Then why this? http://i.imgur.com/db2CJ1a.jpg

The first one is buying. I thought it was only his nickname, but the color of the trade offer is different, so I think it is a listing for buying? :/

@Condemor:

That is something you should report.

Blue trade offer icon = accepting item offers/open for discussion

i'll see if that priveliges error goes away after some days. is the error, that one cannot accept and send trade offers while running the bot a steam problem?

Kevin the Chicken God

figured I'd transfer this question over here rather than on the Donator section, I've downloaded all the stuff, followed the tutorial, got to the black screen where you input your information without any issues, however after I put in my information it seems as though the bot fails to connect and it never asks me for any code, it just tells me to  hit any key to continue, then does nothing.
