Off gaming, Opinions on "Arabs"

Karam

Recommended Posts

I met many people on steam, and when they ask where are you from, i am like "Syria", they are like what/where is Syria, i'm like arab country and they end up removing me xD

Just want to see what people think when they hear "arabs", do you think of terrorism ? stupid people ? retardness ? peace ? war ? good things ? bad things ?

I would like some opinions to see what you think of "us", all countries have good and bad people who directly or in-directly represent their countires, so whatcha opinions ? No offences taken from anybody

I try not to make generalizations based on where you're from.  Unfortunately, now is not a good time to be Arab in the USA.

I'm sorry but I think the entire middle east = terrorism

Appreciate your honesty, but what makes you think that ?

Some say that all Arabs are terrorists. But when in fact most Terrorists are Arabs.

It's all stereotypes, you should ignore them, and carry on living on, in 10 years time a new religion/country will be picked on (my prediction: Koreans)

Just like it used to be the jews and then Irish, then Muslims, who's next?

I didn't mean it's a bad time to discuss it.  I was just referring to the disappointingly large group of people in the USA who garner hatred for anyone with Arab heritage.  We've had our share of a few Islam-related attacks (some obviously more severe than others, eg 9/11) and we live in a political system where we are currently reminded of them for various reasons.

I had an Arabic neighbor when I was a little kid up until about 1-2 years ago when I moved. He was very nice! ^-^ Always let me go get toys that went over the fence. I broke his already broken but taped up window and he wasn't too mad about it.

I just think squiggly line language when I hear Arabic. :P

I really don't know much about the 9/11 incident, i was just too young, anyway just a headsup, some "muslims" are acually in real, aint no muslims, you see Islam is also separated into different sections, 1 section is right and the rest are young, these people only want to ruin the picture of Islam outside in other cultures.

And yes, many countries express hatred to Arab heritage, and i still don't get it, people want peace in the world and they still dont like each other, weird people ruling the world.

If you count Iran, Israel as Arabs then you are right, i am actually ignoring "for now" but i am afraid of the future, what does it hold for us ? I dont even know

Also, don't you see some americans? "no offence all" I hate to say that but they are just bigger terrorists, look at libya, egypt, tunisia, they had issues with there presidents and all the other countries helped them removing the presidents, when it come to Syria, the president is killing, raping, kidnapping, bombing cities DAILY and what is the world doing ? nothing, absulotely nothing. Eh

Haha, glad to hear that :)  and yes arabic language is indeed a kind of strange language and hard, even I have troubles when I read arabic :P

First, I want to state how heart broken I am about the conflict in Syria.  It has been such a long and brutal war and I do not think it will end soon.  I have watched much of the stories coming from Syria and they are painful to see. The leadership there has condemned the nation to a generation of pain and self-destruction for even if they win they will have done so by destroying half of their people as well as decimating any chance of relations with the world around them. If they loose it will bring forth chaos born of mutual distrust by the factions that exist there.  I am sorry but Syria will be a mess for along time and freedom will be bitter.

As for what the US has or has not done.  We have helped in limited ways with some aid, diplomatic pressure as well as other assistance but not enough to turn the tide.  If we take action it would cause a reaction from Iran, Hezbollah as well as other factions.  The region in general will negatively react to the US entering yet another middle-Eastern country.  Syria is different from Libya because it has a more densely packed population and because of it being more culturally connected to the middle east.  Most Arabic nations did not care so much about Libya but they would about Syria.  The Russian's will also not allow the US to take action under the umbrella of the UN.  However, if I am correct, several Middle-eastern countries allied with the US are giving some aid.  I understand Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Qatar as well as other factions.  I am pleased to see other middle-eastern countries jumping in to help.  The more stable countries in the region have a responsibility to help as well as usher in peace.

I have no bad impression of Arabic people in general having been to Saudi Arabia.  What I believe needs to be recognized is that much of these conflicts and the rise of terrorist organizations has to do with the fact that the Middle East is a region with very rich cultural heritage that is going thru a great transition.  A transition that is in conflict with much of their tradition.  Conservative elements of the culture have been acting in many ways in defense of tradition.  This conflict is deep and long lasting because of the history and heritage this region has as the foundation of civilization and the roles it has played in much of humanities history.

KMD, please be safe and maybe I'll see you in a game server in the future.

Cheers Charlie, you made some points that i agree on, Yes the mess will stay for long we know that, but if the President stayed, what did we benefit ourselfs ? Did all the blood, cities wrecked and destroyed count for nothing ? Don't think so, freedom maybe bitter at the beginning, but it is something that you will not feel :)]

I appreciate the help from other countries, I do live is Saudi Arabia, i go to many Fundraising parties to raise money as well that i help packing food, clothes, blankets etc. that come from donations to pack them and send them. Also, Turkey does an awesome job, i went there and made a party there when there was an islamic celebration. Unlike Jordan, who deal with Syrians horibbly and all there facilities are crap. However, countries like Iran, China, Russia and somewhere in Lebanon, they keep supplying the president with money, weapons, bombs, tanks and so on, they are the reason for this, and Europe and the US aren't doing anything.

And yes, the new technology things and new traditions are ruining the heritage, living in Saudi Arabia and especially studying in International Schools, you see that this generation is infact, spoiled, hardly. You see young boys cursing, swearing, not caring about there parents or anything like that which is horrible, we did play alot of roles in the humanity history which makes us proud of ourselves, but this new generation donot care, especially young kids that are Saudies in particular, something needs to change.

I will try to stay safe, hope to see you around !

Talking about bad example of a society, here religion is kind off strict so people go out and do whatever they want, sad. People will never learn.

Quite interesting, media brain washes people and people dont even pay attention to that, that is why i never watch T.V :P i know more about countries more through knowing people on steam than seeing TV talking about the same country.

One of my friends is a friend of the House of Saud. He invited me over to their palace once, and it was amazing.

Aside from that, I have a few Arabic friends. No complaints except when I'm cooking pork chops and they refuse to eat it

Nothing. Nothing at all. I don't care where you come from, it's down to an individual level. There are dickheads the world over, and they come from every country, a flag doesn't make a bit of difference.

You'll see a trend; the more uneducated, or less intelligent someone is, the more ignorant they are (about life, the universe, and everything). Ignorance is a terrible thing.

First thing I think of about Arabs is usually their religion. They find it OK to behead a British man in London for speaking his mind on the Arabic wars? That's saddening. I have nothing against their religion, just their general lack of logic and reason really disturbs me.

I also think of Hashishins when I think of Arabic folk.

All Arabs aren't bad though, that's a bit stereotypically thinking and border lining racism thinking they're all terrorists. I've met plenty who are nice.

I find it really sad that whenever theres a terrorist attack or something, people instantly go and hate on the religion of the terrorist (unless it is Christianity. In which case they'll say that they had mental issues, list off that person's academic achievements, e.t.c) for promoting terrorism. Its that person's fault, not their religion. Nothing in any religion promotes killing others. And yet, people seem to ignore that.

In short, people are stupid.
