Did they just hold onto them for a long time or something? 4 or so years ago, a couple people who had unique Earbuds had some sort of glitch with their earbuds, so they reported it to Valve. Valve then delete their earbuds and gave them earbuds in "Vintage" quality in return. Same with the "Big Kill, Max Head, Lubricus Lid, Companion Cube, Parasite, Shortstop, Old Guadalajara, ETC.
