Hugeisno1 Posted July 12, 2014 Posted July 12, 2014 So recently I had a guy add me to trade. He stated what he wanted and we went to the trade window. Once there he added a far lower amount of metal than what I asked for. I pointed out my asking price and he canceled the trade in response. I asked him if he read the trade notes. His answer was to ask me to delete him. So I did and thought nothing of it. We all get those guys from time to time. Not a day afterwards the same guy comes back. This time after greeting him I asked him if he had read the trade notes. He says he didn't (sigh but at least he was honest). I stated my price and he accepted. We went to the trade window. this time he added all the metal but one scrap, claiming poverty. Not even two weapons to add in it's place. I told him I'll check his inventory (Honestly when last did you find someone who didn't have an extra 2 weapons laying around?) I didn't have to check as he added the missing scrap, with a frustrated "omg"I cancelled the trade. Stated why I didn't want to trade with him(Rudeness and lying).Loling like a child and insulting along the way he left. I don't regret the decision. The lying is what broke the deal. It was petty. I can understand a bit of bargaining. I enjoy it from time to time but a blatant lie in attempt to bring down the price by a single scrap? No.I don't mind it when people are rude in a trade. At times I put it down to a language barrier or haste. That's fine, that's normal but I can't stand it when people are unethicalNow my question is: Have you ever been added by a guy who's just been so rude, uncouth or unethical that you wanted to refuse to do business with him? Did you refuse him your business?
Slocumruls Posted July 12, 2014 Posted July 12, 2014 I blocked a guy for changing how much he wanted on his max head. The trade clearly says "No Other Offers". I budged one key and he proceeded to try for 2 more.
knavesmith Posted July 12, 2014 Posted July 12, 2014 I've yet to encounter such a situation, but if someone was acting extremely rude, lacking basic reading skills, or unwilling to cooperate with my rules and statements, I would gladly refuse business with them.
Budi Posted July 12, 2014 Posted July 12, 2014 I've had similar situations happen to me today alone about 8 times. I can't even count the number of times over the last few years since trading has been streamlined. It's truly unbelievable how people can't take 5-10 fucking seconds to read trade notes. Even worse are the people that add me to offer me their garbage items out of nowhere. I think I've negatively repped about 10 people in the last few days for being stupid. Everytime somebody acts like a moron I've been -repping them on their profiles so everybody else can take note before they trade with them.

BBQ DAWGZ Posted July 12, 2014 Posted July 12, 2014 I had this guy the other day, he added me for a hat I was selling, after complaining about the price, he was givin' me shiz about how I use 'dawg' in chat. He kept asking for my age, asking me why "I was a rapper". He told me he was 15 for some reason. He kept pestering me, and just wasting my time. Ninjainspektor Posted July 12, 2014 Posted July 12, 2014 When I've wanted to do 1:1 with [1 key valued hat] for [another 1 key valued hat] and I've found a guy that had a trade: 'trading my [Hat which I wanted] 1:1 for [Hat which I got], I do not accept metal/keys!!!'. He had what I wanted, so I've added him. afer 'round 13 minutes of waiting he didn't even respond to 'Hello!'. His response was: 'where key nigga'. I've asked 'Sorry, what?' He repiled '1 key nigga'. I was confused, because the notes clearly said 'doing 1:1 with the hat'. I've shown him that and told him that I've got the needed hat- fully clean, and he repiled (laugh-worthy warning!) 'I SAY I DO 1:1 MY HAT WITH THE [HAT I GOT] SO CUZ ITS WORTH 1 KEY I WANT KEY YOU FUCKING NIGGER' After a little flame war because of his rudeness and lying in the notes (oh, and also: he had some metal offers UNDER his trade, all of them hidden with reply 'no, read the notes'. Thankfully, I got the hat which I wanted from a very nice guy; because I had to wait for him a bit long he said 'Sorry for being away for so long, I really want to do that 1:1 but because you waited, here, an extra rec for you :)'. That was my story. TL;DR: A guy lied and was racist as fuck.

I was referring to the backpack.tf trust system rep. When any person adds me for any reason, the first thing I do is open their steam profile, copy the number id code to the backpack.tf searchbar, then look at their backpack items/trust/steam rep so I know what I'm dealing with before they even say a word. Saves me a ton of headache.

The trust system should be used for cash transactions or other situations where reputation is required, like being a middleman for a trade. Leaving ±rep with reasons not related to reputable situations are not allowed because they don't serve the purpose the trust page was created for.

You're just saying this to one person out of the thousands and thousands who uses it otherwise. Thats where the major fault in Trust system falls in. Its a broken system.

Or you can suggest to Fiskie to add something to the trust page explaining what it's for and how to properly use it instead of complaining about how broken the system is.

Not sure how you saw that as complaining, anyways wasn't complaining just stating that its broken at the moment and people abuses it a lot which is a given fact and everyone here is aware of it. Plan to suggest it but Fiskie is really busy with fixing the looks of voting page and backpack.tf over that, he is also working on dota2backpack as well, so I will suggest sometimes after he finishes fixing the looks of voting page and some things in backpack.tf
TheTruth Posted July 12, 2014 Posted July 12, 2014 I've had so many people adding in 1 scrap less saying "no more scrap no weapons lying around pls dis ok?" ....Like that 1 scrap profit makes SUCH a big difference...... Then again, that 1 scrap profit drove "key-bankers" to screw up the Mann-conomy in the past.
Heated Bread Posted July 12, 2014 Posted July 12, 2014 Now my question is: Have you ever been added by a guy who's just been so rude, uncouth or unethical that you wanted to refuse to do business with him? Did you refuse him your business? Yes. Many times. Yes, I have refused on every single occasion, even if it was for an item that I dearly wanted, and even in cases where I knew that I would not get a better deal from someone else. I have even gone to the lengths of blocking these guys on steam and blocking them on outpost. I will not deal with someone who I have caught attempting to use any sort of manipulative or dishonest tactic on me. Period. I am proud of this.

Liddojunior Posted July 12, 2014 Posted July 12, 2014 You don't have to trade with anyone if you don't want to. That being said, if a user is rude or impolite, I will refuse to trade with them. I don't care about profit, I don't want to be treated poorly. I have had users re-add me when after they insulted me later on in the day or in the following days to trade. However, after seeing the previous chat I would just tell them I will not be trading with them because of their previous behavior and proceed with removing them.
Wubsies ♥ Posted July 12, 2014 Posted July 12, 2014 What I do is fast and very plain and simple >tell them to shut the fuck up >tell them to go read >block n move on You have the rights to trade with anyone if you want, who cares if they call you a scammers. 90% of them don't even know what scamming IS,or know how to correctly use it.
BloodyRo Posted July 12, 2014 Posted July 12, 2014 I had a similar problem yesterday. A guy sent me a trade offer 2 days ago, I accepted it. Then 1 day later he adds me and he's asking for his items back.

Good to see the user who wanted to do tradeback isn't immature and did not cuss out and shit, and simply accepted that he made a mistake.
Toceus Posted July 12, 2014 Posted July 12, 2014 You're just saying this to one person out of the thousands and thousands who uses it otherwise. Thats where the major fault in Trust system falls in. Its a broken system. I put up a Bill's hat on the classifieds for a listed price of 5 keys and 4.33 ref. This made it the lowest priced Bill's hat in Backpack.tf. I then put in the notes that I was ONLY trading TEN Bill's hats for 55 keys. 4 people added me, I told them to pay 6 keys for an individual one or 55 for the lot (as per the fucking notes...), 2 of them left -rep on my trust page. I reported both of those because they were irrelevant to cash trades, and bam, gone in less than a day. Those of you that use -rep as a way to show that a trader is rude or a liar, fuck you (I'm neither in the above case but you're just making the trust system worse for all), as with those that use it as a way of gauging someone's behaviour. Editteroonie: How my trades usually go... [see invite] [hover over profile image] [ignore if level 0 or a really stupid name that phishers would use] [if the guy's offline, tag him as "added me"] [otherwise talk to him] ["hi"] [while he responds, copy his customURL into rep.tf, etc] [he says "i want buy ur [item]"] [ask "do you have [pure amount I suggested] keys?"] [hover over "delete friend" button, if he says no, delete him] [trade] [keep hovering over "delete friend" button until he adds [x] keys to the trade window] e-z p-z

Take a look on the second picture as well, if you haven't yet. I even wanted to give 1 ref back (which was the actual price he lost) , when he blew it and asked for more. Yes, he accepted that it was his fault but he still was a bit rude and immature.

I have read it before posting that comment. Key word here is "bit" There are way worse trader (immature and rude) than the person who added you for a re-trade. He seems a bit frustrated that he made a mistake by selling it, thats all. He didn't started cussing, blaming, threaten you in any way or anything sort of that
