Hi names joe

I'm getting a bit nervous because all of this global warming stuff is it really our fault that were destroying the world. I know it sounds weird but I get really scared around the subject.

Thanks for your answer it helps me A lot :)

The earth is warming up, but whether or not its is 100% human's fault is up for debate.

whether it's sensible to continue mass-producing gases that are 100% proven to have an impact in increasing the rate of climate change is not really up for debate though. it's kind of nonsense, but we'll want to ignore that for as long as possible because it's gonna suck to work out how to preserve our standard of living whilst not crushing our more distant hopes of survival as a species.

I recommend you watch the episode of the reboot of Cosmos on the subject, it was really interesting

I think that saying "no, global warming isnt caused by humans", is denying it based on our fear that it's true

http://www.hulu.com/watch/643055 its quite the time commitment tho

He wasnt wrong tho, back a while back when CFCs were used in practically everything it literally burned away our ozone. Took us years to get it all banned from use and to find a decent alternative.

cfc = awesome for refrigerants, taking out fires, aero cans...etc used to be used in any product related to those, but when released it stopped the reaction o + o2 -> 03 (ozone) from forming and one molecule can react continuously in our atmosphere. People saw it as the miracle chemical and didnt realize it's effects until it was used globally...

If you still think humans have no effect on ozone think again...

EDIT: how it broke down ozone

Cl + O3(ozone) = ClO + O2

ClO + O = Cl + O2

**repeats process

How ozone is formed

O2 + O = O3 (ozone)

The gobal warming patterns match up more with sunspots rather than CO2 emmision. During the 60-70s the sunspots increased and have slowing decreased since then. Now emmisions ARE bad, but I don't think that they are the main cause behind the heat increase and slow decrease we have been seeing.

Also I would like to say that we should not ruin ourselves economicaly to fix a theory, imagine how much faster the new world would have been discovered if the world wasn't "flat".

We hardly make any damage compared to what damage the sun has done.

There's a theory that scientists and environmentalists faked global warming.

TL;DR

I hate environmentalists and that its faked to make more people into the "new age era"(which is basically modern age stone age)

I don't care about the whole world exploding and sea levels rising. I'll explode way before sea levels rise to a dangerous level.

Seriously I think it's human accelerating global warming by a few years and tries to fix the problems

I'll wait for the next ice age

Any proof of those claims?

the "Ice Age" coming up is caused by global warming, making everything cold will only be a viable solution for a century or so

Emissions are the main cause of the greenhouse effect, which in turn increases climate change

CO2 is the main cause of the greenhouse effect, and it's presence in the environment was minimal until the dawn of the Industrial Revolution ( http://www-das.uwyo.edu/~geerts/cwx/notes/chap01/Image18.gif )

The sunspot theory is a pretty common one, and here's an interesting article about it ( http://www.csmonitor.com/Environment/2009/0722/earthtalk-do-sunspots-and-solar-flares-affect-climate-change ), however I believe that the effect doesnt have a major impact

Addressing the last post, the vast majority of people knew that the world was round centuries before Columbus (or even the Vikings) discovered the new world, they just lacked the resources and drive to do so.

Should be called global climate change, not global warming. But yeah true, the world is in one of those periods where it is heating up, but the fact that we are speeding up the process is certain

These graphs and illustrations make global warming quite convincing. It seems that you got scared by the media or your teacher. Don't be, the future for our youth isn't pretty anyway.

erm...

http://www.gizmodo.com.au/2014/06/watching-desperate-polar-bears-searching-for-ice-is-truly-heartbreaking/

TL;DR ice sheets are melting and being further apart making mammals which depend on hunting near sheets die out, notably polar bears.

lol playing on emotions rather than fact.

im not saying either person is right... but a sad video of polar bears swimming isn't factual at all.

but then who will accept the unusual suggestions?

since the invention of thermometers we are able to accurately measure temperatures. since precision thermometers world wide are indicating temperature increases, we can say we high certainty that the earth is warming.

global warming is indisputable right now. the causes are unclear, but the measurements we take give us a more clear idea of what's going on. what i find particularly worrying and more often than not, it's never mentioned at all, the temperature of the oceans as well as the ever increasing dissolved carbon dioxide in the sea. that is arguably a bigger threat to our way of life than warmer air.
