Is this considered entrapment?

I was feeling bored on my favorite trade server, when I saw someone advertising that he was trading real money for TF2 items. Now, I wasn't on an unusual server, just a normal trade server, with ref being the most common currency. I decided to act dumb and get him to offer on my DP Furious Fukaamigasa (about 2 buds).         (name changed to xxx)

  1. You added Unusual Furious Fukaamigasa 23:08:24

  2. xxx: can u show 23:08:25

  3. xxx: is this one? or theres more? 23:08:39

  16. xxx added The Merc's Pride Scarf 23:12:44

  17. xxx added The Bigg Mann on Campus 23:12:44

  18. xxx added The Breakneck Baggies 23:12:48

  19. xxx added Larrikin Robin 23:12:49

  20. xxx: hm , is that ok? 23:13:00

  21. xxx: my fave items xD 23:13:06

  22. You are ready 23:13:43

  23. xxx is ready 23:13:45

I didn't actually click accept, because I'm not a total idiot. The pride scarf and larrikin were both uncraftable, btw.

Now, obviously he was about to commit a scam (my stuff is worth SIGNIFICANTLY more than his stuff), but I kinda goaded him into this by acting dumb.

Should I report him to anyone? All I have is this pastebin recording of the chatlog, as I was unable to properly prtscreen before the trade window closed. Am I acting too righteous? probably...

That would be sharking.

I had done something similar like 2 years ago where I "let" someone shark me; and when I reported them to MCT I was told it was entrapment and that it wouldn't be valid.

That would be sharking. Not scamming.

Yea, you're right, sorry.

Ok, thanks. I had fun, though. The thrill of entrapment CANNOT be denied!

Wouldn't that actually be scamming? He lied about the price. When you shark someone, you don't tell them the price. You ask if they want a couple hats or weps.

What is a Scammer?

A scammer is anyone that uses deception, thievery, lies, or anything that is underhanded to take advantage of or steal from another trader.

He lied about the price, so yes, he techniqually attempted to scam you

A scammer is someone who steals and/or doesn't fulfill his part of the agreement.

A shark is someone who takes advantage of a users lack of knowledge.

This is sharking, not scamming.

Scamming is stealing.

Sharking is a taking advantage to get something dirt cheap.

It isn't entrapment because he was advertising him buying them.

Take a real life scenario.  If you see someone telling people they're selling "stuff", and an undercover cop goes in and it comes out to be he's doing illegal things that match the suspicion, the cop isn't called out for entrapment in this case because he didn't lead the other person into doing anything.
