ProPain Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 I got this kinda outdated PC and it has a pretty crappy graphics card so i'm planning to update it, my budget is pretty modest since i don't really want a super gpu to run battlefield 4 on Ultra Settings @100 fps, just a 150-250$ Mid range card, also i want to know if i need to buy an AMD card or a Nvidia card. Leave your replies below and thanks for the help Current build is: Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-880GM-USB3 CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 960T RAM: 16 Gb (4x4) 1 TB HDD 550W Power Supply Case: Cooler Master Elite 430 Mid Tower P.S. I cannot buy from Newegg because i don't live on the United States
anime dipshit Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 You should go with an AMD card since you have an AMD CPU. I only know Nvidia though, so I can't recommend one in particular.

AwesomeMcCoolName Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 I don't really know AMD so, i'll just focus on nvidia: GtX760 ($250) GTX750 ($100~) GTX750ti ($170~) On a side note, hows that case (how long of a gpu can it comfortably fit, and can it fit sli graphics easily)? I was looking into it for my build.

You can check the case here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119227

jjjon123 Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 7750 7770 or whatever the current gen budget amd card is
akio Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 I used to have the same CPU as you, my GPU was a R9 270X but, it did bottleneck it a bit. Where do you live? (Please no paedophile jokes) You got get a HD 7870 if it fits in your budget. If you live in Australia, which I guess you dont. But on the .01% you do, visit Umart.com.au and click your nearest store.
ProPain Posted May 23, 2014 Author Posted May 23, 2014 Where do you live? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christmas_Island Here, with my Uncle Santa
ProPain Posted May 23, 2014 Author Posted May 23, 2014 But be serious, or is that for real? Nah, i live on Mexico . Btw how did the R9 270X perform? I'm quite interested with the price tag
AwesomeMcCoolName Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christmas_Island Here, with my Uncle Santa Newegg ships to Australia, no? Nah, i live in Mexico . Btw how did the R9 270X perform? I'm quite interested with the price tag :/ Well, the 290x is more or less comparable to the gtx780--so....pretty much the best gpu you can get short of a titan/780ti. Much more than a 760 is kind of pointless since the cpu will bottleneck anything more expensive anyway. *derp* 270x not 290x :3
akio Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 Nah, i live in Mexico . Btw how did the R9 270X perform? I'm quite interested with the price tag I only tested it on BF3 and Crysis 3. You can always look up benchmarks on Techspot or any other mainstream tech site. BF3 was @ Med/High w/ Fraps 30-55fps, w/o Fraps was about 45-60. Oh, and I overclocked the CPU :3 Dont remember the Crysis 3 performance as my old HDD died from a failure.
t1m1d Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 Ok. Ignore what anyone has told you about CPU/GPU pairing. Using an AMD card on an Intel CPU makes no impact in performance, neither does an Nvidia card on an AMD CPU. For the price, you definitely wanna go AMD. If you can afford it, you could get an R9 280 for $200. Otherwise, I'd go for an R9 270x if you wanna get away with spending a little less. But if you wait a little bit, you may be easily able to snag a 280 for $200 or less. That's a great deal. That card is an absolute beast for the price.

ProPain Posted May 23, 2014 Author Posted May 23, 2014 750ti 2gb Looks like a good value option :3. Thanks for the advice
t1m1d Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 That card is $250, and it would make my CPU bottleneck , but thanks for the advice c: It's actually $200 after promo code and MIR.However, yes, that would be a significant bottleneck unless you upgrade the processor as well haha. You can get an R9 270 for only a few bucks more than a 750 ti, and it has quite a bit more power behind it. The call's up to you. I will admit I'm biased towards AMD but it's just because the price/performance is awesome.

AwesomeMcCoolName Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 But, do you think it could fit on a mid tower case? The card is pretty damn large Measure how much room is there. neither the 270 or 750ti aren't that long though; they're both like 9".
ProPain Posted May 23, 2014 Author Posted May 23, 2014 Measure how much room is there. neither the 270 or 750ti aren't that long though; they're both like 9". tfw metric system here, 9'' would be like 22.5 cm i guess
-Pubbies- Russian Krotov Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 Another good card on the AMD side is the r7 260x, or if you want a bit more performance, the r9 270x. Both come with free games too.
