Q: Should I trade it for something I like more?

A: Of course you should, if you can.  That's the whole point of trading.  If you find something you like more, and the other guy is willing to do the trade, then it's a no-brainer.  Keep it unless you can trade it for something you like more.

For a general idea of price on any unpriced item (you should also do this for items with prices, to verify that the price is reasonable), check the following:

1) The classifieds--for this item, the lowest seller is asking 25, and you have buyers offering 9.  So right off, you can be fairly certain its market value is between 9 and 25.  Since buyers only offer an amount when they're certain they can sell it for more than that, you can assume that 9 is a bit low.  Sellers usually ask the price they hope to get and are willing to negotiate down a bit, so 25 would be a good starting point, but you should expect to get a little less than that.  Cutting off the bottom and the top, right around 20 seems like a reasonable estimate if you want to sell it in a decent amount of time.

Also, you'd want to check the ones listed in the classifieds, and see how long they've been listed.  For this item, all the current listings are very new--a few days or even hours.  That's a good sign, and means they're being bought and sold quickly, which usually mean demand is high and you're likely to get more, in this case it makes 25 look more realistic.  By contrast, if several had been for sale at 25 for 2-3 months, it would tell you that no one wants them at 25, and 25 is too high.

2) Steam Community Market--The SCM is most useful for finding the market price for any specific item when it has the least desirable effect.  Showstopper is definitely a more desirable effect, so the SCM won't give a very precise answer here, but it can still be helpful.  For Soviet Strongarm taunts with any effect, you have buyers at USD ~$20, and the lowest sellers at ~$25.  After the 15% tax, $20 becomes about $17.40, which is enough to buy just over 7 keys.  So that's your absolute, rock-bottom number that you can instantly get for any SS taunt, even with the worst effect.  Yours is obviously worth more, as it has a very nice effect.

Next, you'd want to search for only SS taunts with Showstopper.  That shows you two sellers, the lowest being at ~$59, which means he would get ~$51 after taxes, which is enough to buy ~21 keys.

Based on the info above, you could probably come to the conclusion that 25 keys is a good asking price and you might be able to get that, but I'd expect to get closer to 20 in pure, or maybe items/unusuals around 25-30.

Always gather some info on prices before you do a trade, unless you really don't care about value at all.  Classifieds and SCM. People around here are usually willing to give advice.  Don't be afraid to ask for more help if you need it.

Also, here's a couple of general tips:

- Many people are trying to steal your stuff.  Don't go along with any weird requests, and only do trades where all the items involved are in the trade window

- You never need a middleman for item trades, and you don't need to get your item verified by a trusted friend.

- That guy who just added you is NOT a Valve employee.

- If you want to sell for cash (like on marketplace.tf), do your own research and figure out if you want to do that.  Don't follow some guy's instructions to deposit something on opskins.

- If you want to trade and increase value, be prepared to do a lot of research.

- Trading takes time, patience, and practice.  It isn't worth it unless you just enjoy trading for the sake of it.

Thanks! you've given me a good idea of what to do with it and how to handle it. I appreciate the help.
