People unbox for the same reason why they gamble at casinos. Do not unbox as an investment. Instead, it should be treated the same way as a scratch or lottery ticket: Expect that money to be wasted, but bask in the pleasant surprise when you get something good. I've seen people unbox 300 crates and not get a single unusual. Even if you do, it probably won't be enough to get your money back.
