What's changed for you since 1 year ago?

Over the course of the year (school year Sept - August etc) a lot of things have changed. So let's discuss what you've seen change among your everyday surroundings, yourself and such.

+ Positives:

  • I'm more aware of news, especially with life threatening events. It's desensitized me to the point where I only feel sympathy. I've accepted that it's not an unusual event to occur. Hence why I approach silly drama topics with a harsh outlook.
  • Becoming a Youtuber, has helped me counter stress, with the overall positive environment. (not counting the comment sections)
  • Fear of speaking amongst new people has been significantly reduced, as well as caring less for how loud I am. (Introvert alert?)
  • I'm more supportive and helpful to my family.
  • I've met lots of people, like Polar and the mods, Meet and play MvM with members of KritsKast, Muselk and loads of various TF2bers
  • I managed to have a winning entry for the backpack.tf wallpaper contest.
  • My hobby of SFM thumbnails has replaced trading for me, and allowed me to use Paypal to have more control of what I can get with that.
  • I've learned from the events of the podcast, but the actual discussions and editing of it were my highlights.
  • MvM with Teeny, Carnage and friends.
  • I am learning to use lesser known editing programs like After Effects, and trying SFM Animation.
  • I am hoping to become a key role in the media department, like I was with a TF2ber charity stream I participated in

- Negatives:

  • The days lasted forever. I've felt time flowed slow for myself, with everything being possible in one day. That changed. Now I feel the pressure of bigger tasks that should be done in a smaller timeframe. That I myself, am slow. Take too long to do things etc.
  • I've experienced my first loss of a friend, not of death or them moving, but we fell so out of touch I can't even talk to them w/o it being awkward. That friend was my best friend. I've begun to value my friendships more ever since.
  • I don't see the importance of me getting my G1, as I know I won't use it. Yet I feel left behind knowing some of my friends are doing their G2 this summer.
  • Trading is a dead hobby for me. My usual methods were made insufficient due to mobile authenticator, the ref to key gap ect.
  • Torn some bridges with the events of the backpack.tf podcast.

Overall, this year was a rollercoaster for me. Probably one of my more eventful years. I guess it's that hard slap in the face life gives you before adulthood.

Feel free to share your roller coaster of a year down below.

+ Positives

  • Got that highschool/middle school diploma and going to uni next year
  • Found a nice job that pays well
  • Met an old friend again and we're still cool
  • Got some friends to play tf2 together
  • Went to Germany

- Negatives

  • Lost my best friend / girlfriend which held me down for to long and makes me feel empty in side far too much.
  • re-dislocated my arm so still not sporting again
  • Gained some weight
  • Wanting the past back too much

+Positives

  • Finished my GCSEs, certain to get A-A* across the board but maybe a B in Art or English, worst case scenario. Can be an adult and work or stay to do further education.
  • Learnt how to code / program in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, MySQL and a heck of a lot more within just one year (only started the Computing Science / Computing GCSE a year ago and already top of the class) and bound to get one of the highest.
  • Roughly 11-12 months ago, I did get scammed about $100 at the start of Summer 2015 by some fucking kid who was coding some Stntrading.eu copy but looked pretty damn awful and fell for the trap of joining in. Luckily, I wasn't a total dumbass for losing a lot more, but from there, I learnt to become more independent and more cautious of scams, trusting only a small assortment of online friends.
  • Got more into cash trading with OPSkins and other RMT sites. Became a seller on Marketplace.tf. So far, this year has been the most productive for trading for me.
  • On the verge of creating a couple of online projects, having given a lot of thought to them and planning how I would go about them.

-Negatives

  • Losing some friends, still in contact with a merry dozen of them online though.
  • Haven't been doing a lot of exercise.

!!! CORNY ANSWER !!!

Im where I aimed to be a year ago. Of course Ive met a lot of people and dropped some others but it is what it is. I'm happy and excited for the next few months and looking long term I want to stay on track to keep doing better and better. Im willing to work even harder than a year ago to do it and make whatever sacrifices I need to make to get there.

  • Sophomore year of HS is done
  • Im better at trading
  • Got to go on my first real vacation where we did something cool far away from my house and didnt have to put any work into it but had to pay for it
  • I got a verified PayPal and am going to start pulling more real money out of the game
  • I filled out a little bit so i'm not as skinny as I was, and i'm considering starting to work out soon to bulk up (might make a thread soon asking for tips on what to eat, what not to eat (very loose eating program, I dont care that much) and what type of excercises I should do)

-Negatives

  • I too lost friends. I grew apart from my 2 best friends, in a more angry way then your breakup. I cut off my friends because they were starting to annoy the hell out of me. We went to different schools and they're different now.
  • Junior year is about to start, and i'm in AP Chem. I THINK i'm going to do fine, but if she assigns a lot of online learning I may struggle. EDIT: dropped the class, 10/10 easy schoolyear

Pretty good year in all! Sophomore year was my least favorite school year of all, I was in a bad mood nearly every day after school, but now that i'm a junior I got to choose classes I think i'll like better. :)

Negatives

I graduated college/uni a year ago. Sadly i have been unable to find a job and i have been living off my gfs family as my parents dumped me when i moved away for college.

Ive been battling severe depression when an almost guaranteed internship fell through and someone with far less experince got it over me.

Ive applied for about 30 jobs this year. None of which even called me for an interview NOT EVEN THE TRIVIAL RETAIL JOBS

Positives

Since i knew i was struggling to find a job i wanted to stop investing irl money into tf2 so i got into trading.

My backpack went from ~$15 to ~$60* in just personal use items

*I reached what i consider a trading milestone for me. My goal for trading was to get an all class halloween effect. It is a haunted ghosts tree (yea ik its not HW effect but its close right?). Its currently on marketplace.

I also paid for overwatch with keys which was nice

My gf and i moved from a shit hole college apt to an amazing apt community where we want to start a family. After i get a job obviously

We will be getting a dog in about 2 weeks

Of course i played tons of games this year and my skills at most FPS's has greatly improved.

Overall my year doesnt seem too bad now that ive thought about it but it did take a toll on me mentally.

Compared to last year, my life has been in an elevator with rocketboots. Pretty much hit rock bottom around a year ago, up to the extent that making price suggestions became the pinnacle of my day

Positives:
- I did not die, so theres that

- I signed up for a study Astrophysics; the first time I didnt sign up for a study at the very last minute because I felt like I "had to pick something"
- I Got a job; a seasonal one that I can combine perfectly with said study
- Because of that job Im not broke anymore, so I have more opportunities to go out and to do stuff, which significantly improves my social life
- I've met a lot of great people, both online and in real life. People to have serious talks with, and buddies to just grab a beer with
- I became a backpack.tf moderator, which is nice :P
- I became more active as an unusual trader, and made a pretty decent backpack. Ive had a great trading experience, both for myself and for others (as a broker). I managed to get my own dream hat (kinda cheating though, that was slightly over a year ago :P), as well as a friend's dream hat through brokering.
- Since I've had a ton of free time om my hands, Ive invested more time working out; pretty content with the results

Negatives:
Well, to be fair, not much really. Sure, there've been bad days, but compared to last year, pretty much everything got better

Life definitely isnt perfect yet; there's still plenty of room for additional improvement. Theres still plenty of goals to work for; for instance, Im still single (*wink* ladies ;p), and I still need to prove that I can actually successfully complete my study, but all in all, it has been a good year :P

+ Positives:

  • I graduated high school back in June with my best grades ever, and I'm going off to college in... 2weeksholyshit
  • I got a girlfriend. Like all relationships, it was a rollercoaster within itself, but overall I'd say it was a positive experience.
  • I beat Dark Souls.
  • Got my drivers license in July! There's nothing like hauling ass down the highway while blasting eurobeat and speeding just a little bit too much.
  • I continued making youtube videos, and I kind of shifted my focus from video games to making mashups and meme music. I don't really care what my subscribers think, it's more fun for me that way.
  • I got over some of my social anxiety, which'll probably help for college.
  • Pokemon Go came out, giving me some motivation to exercise. It's also a fun socializing activity where you get to talk to strangers about pokemon.
  • I stopped going on 4chan so much. It's just not worth the time.

- Negatives:

  • The year 2016 is happening. So many terrible events have went down this year and there's just no end to it. On a personal level my life is doing fine but on a national and global scale, everything is going to shit.
  • I'm going off to college in 2 weeks. While I'm sure everything will end up alright and I'll make a bunch of friends and have a good time, there's still this overwhelming sense of anxiety, like I'm plunging off a cliff into the unknown.
  • My friendgroup was small, just 4 really tight-knit guys, and we're all going off to different colleges. I hope we can stay friends.
  • These summer days are going by incredibly fast and feel like they're slipping away.

Overall, things have been great. I've been pushing my boundaries and becoming more of an actual adult.

  • Lost a lot of weight

+Positives

  • Socialising more, more confident in general and improving my "social status" (not some dumb clique thing, but I'm actually talking to more people and hanging out with more people outside of school)
  • Focusing on school more, passed all my exams last year with 80%+ and going to try for 90%+ this year
  • Mental-health wise doing much better than 2015 in general, no longer depressed to the extent I was last year
  • Learned more about my passions in life and what I want to pursue as a career (Either computer science or ecology)
  • Now in my last year of school!
  • The good part of puberty hit, I've bulked up and gained a bunch of muscle, don't really work out my body (Just running, so cardio) but I'm aesthetically the best shape I've ever been in my life
  • Found a nice hairstyle that doesn't look too bad
  • beat my demons

- Negatives

  • Moved countries ~3 years ago, and I can tell that I'm losing more and more contact with my best friends who I've known for 10+ years. They almost seem like strangers now.
  • Started drinking more alcohol over the summer, attempting to stop completely over the school year.
  • Stopped running as often (from once every 2 days to once a week) - trying to get this back on track
  • Didn't get a job over the summer
  • stopped playing as many games, been reading and spending some more time alone hiking etc (not really a negative, just sad that it feels like the intense video-game chapter of my life is over)
  • haven't had a girlfriend for like 1.5 years (Is something wrong with me?!??!)

Ups and downs, still afloat

Not really had that much of a dramatic change the past year, I mean....
Some stuff I've done this year are the fact that I decided that I wanted to do exactly 1 youtube video MINIMUM a week from the start of this year, I got that still going for me, and I had little, to no internet from the 22nd till the 30th last month so I managed to bypass that problem by my dad being a glorious bastard allowing me to upload a video on the 24th, then I got another video out on the 31st so my 1 a week video still lives. Barely. Damn Sky to EE.

I also early this year got myself a discussion onto this forum for my brokering which I didn't think about doing much sooner from my over 2 years of brokering, Wish I did that sooner but, well, better late than never. Eh?

Apart from that, not really got anything else in my mind that I really, well, changed that much in the past year.
I guess I could also throw in the fact I got more job experience from working for a place for about 8 weeks, but that's about it.

Pros:

-Continuing to mature as a person, looking past the last year(s) it's a very large jump

-Started working out and kept it up

-Finally got on one of the courses I sought after for years

-General development of skills; knowledge in my preferred areas

-Got in touch with very distant family, made a connection; will hopefully see more of them soon.

-Lots more self confidence

Cons:

-Despite working out I believe I've gotten fatter over the summer (god dammit)

-Still haven't got my provisional license despite it being way (like seriously) over due.

-Messed up the last year of education, in the balance of whether I should carry on and do better next year and drag my overall grade up or retake and do the year again

-Forb is still a hoe >:^( (joke)

I guess it's all pretty trivial but I don't have an exciting life or anything but I'm happy with it thus far :)

I know it's not a full year but I'm going to make a second post because oh man my life has changed a lot in the last month!!!

+Positives:

  • College started, and so far everything's been pretty great! Although the move-in was stressful and I didn't make any friends the first day, by day 2 I already had a friend group formed, and now entering the third week we're really close. There's a lot of theater kids so it can get high-strung, but they're fun to be around and I have people to eat meals with and things to do in my free time (sorry for not being on here much...)
  • My class workload is light this semester since it's mostly humanities general eds, which I'm pretty good at. Things will get intense next semester with the introduction of CS courses, but for now it's chill.
  • The food here is much better than my parent's cooking.

-Negatives:

  • I had to say goodbye to all my highschool friends. We're keeping in touch online, but I still miss them.
  • I'm not really friends with my roommate, not a big issue since we each have our own friend groups but still awkward.
  • All in all, doing my laundry costs 6 bucks. It's the scam of the century.
  • I don't have free time for anime and video games anymore (maybe this is a plus?) and my backlog continues to grow.

So overall, I'm in a pretty awesome situation right now. We'll see how it is a few months down the line when I go broke from tuition, but for now I'm happy.

I moved out of the uni apartment in Innsbruck which I used to live in with my ex for nearly a year after our breakup. Holy shit I still don't know how we managed that.

Will move into vienna and be at home even less. Should be great times though. Good to let go of the old times I clung on for way to long.

I've also come to enjoy nature and the small things in life a lot more, this goes hand in hand with my new-found appreciation of certain electronic music and the spiritual scene connected to it. The main turning point for that was my visit to ozora festival this summer (aftermovie from last year, but it was fairly similar). Along with that also came a lot more confidence and enjoyment in dancing and just letting myself go with the music. I still hate 'mainstream' clubs and parties because it seems to me as so very superficial.

I've also lost quite a lot of interest in gaming and only play much less frequently than I used to. On the other side, I did discover my love for PC hardware and PC building. This is kind of unfortunate because at this point I've built myself a sick and fairly pricey rig, but barely use it.

Also getting rid of my slightly negative and critical attitude that I had towards almost everything new. If you set your head to make the best of something that may seem weird initially, it'll almost always end up as a great time.

Oh, and my chronic throat ache has gotten a lot better. Good times.

  • 3 weeks later...
  • 9 months later...

I originally posted this back in August? Man does time fly...

(Sept. 2016- June 2017)

+ Positives:

  • I've begun to break free from my social anxiety, and open up to people I'd never thought I'd become friends with.
  • I'm warming up to the idea of doing things on my own (movies, personal shopping, looking for a weekly pastime)
  • I'm slowly becoming accepted as a reliable person, rather than someone to pity.
  • My last two months made me feel the most alive I've ever felt in years.
  • Finished High school, and heading to college this September
  • Learning from my mistakes, instead of running from them.
  • I grew a pair and asked out a girl of interest

- Negatives:

  • She's taken (fml)
  • I realized I didn't achieve as much as the people around me in HS.
  • Motivation for YouTube and SFM has faltered due to a shift in interests.
  • I only started being spontaneous near the end of my school year.
  • I now have to accept I won't see most of my friends again.
  • Now that it's over, I feel empty and without purpose.

This year was as bitter as it was sweet, now I'm technically an adult and have to lead my own path, and man is it both lonely and scary.

Time's been going by a lot faster and life has molded into an image I can slightly make out.

I also found out what I'm going to do with my life and I actually have a reason to go to college.

But my perspective on life has become a lot more bitter, too.
