Couple of suggestions from a past IPB web admin.

• SEO optimize google. Bing loves IPB, google does not. Just as a test run I googled Backpack.tf and the forums sub-domain was not even on the first 2 pages.
• Most liked topics. http://community.invisionpower.com/files/file/6448-nb34-most-liked-topics/  (I do not condone pirating..just saying a quick google for a nulled version gets it for free.  )
• Spash page. http://community.invisionpower.com/files/file/6376-splash-page/ It shows a splash for new members. You can inform them of some rules, that they can sign in to the site with steam, etc.
• Most Liked Members http://community.invisionpower.com/files/file/6332-nb34-most-rated-members/ (Besides Brad )
• Staff Online http://community.invisionpower.com/files/file/4458-mm32-staff-online-in-sidebar/  Nice to have so if X spams, I can report X and then PM a staff member online to make sure it gets taken care of.
