Profiting in Dota 2

Avenging Flame

I've had a few people ask me how to profit in Dota lately like you can in TF2. I figured I would put it here so I can test out these blogs.

Unlike TF2, there is really no built in currency like metal, instead, everything depends on the rarity of your items. There are 5 rarities that you need to be concerned with: Common, Uncommon, Rare, Mythical and Legendary.

Since there is no currency in Dota, everything is traded based on rarity. The common traded amount is 2:1. So if you see a common you want, you need to be willing to pay 2 of your commons for that specific common you want. Same goes for all the other qualities. You can also do one of a higher quality for one of a lower quality so you could also pay 1 uncommon for a common and thats fair price. If you want to move up in quality, it will take you 4 of the lower quality.

This is how you profit. Most people want rares. Once you have a rare, you can sell it for 2 random rares. Take those 2 rares and sell each for 2 more random rares. I put some rares up for sale 2 days ago, I have sold 3 and made 6 rares out of them. Outpost moves things quick as does http://dota2lounge.com

If you are a gambler, dota lounge also provides the added chance to gamble your items on the pro scene of Dota. Each night, the next days pro matches are posted. You can bet up to 4 items on the team you believe will win. One of the shoutcasters also posts a video series each night with his odds analysis to give you some idea of how things likely are to go. Should you bet on an underdog and win, its quite possible to double or even triple up on the rares you bet depending on the odds.

The great thing about Dota items is that they can all be sold on the market. Commons through legendaries are all marketable. Most rares sell for 50 cents to a dollar, sometimes more, while mythicals are around 2 dollars to 5 dollars. Legendaries can go for much more, often in the 10 to 30 dollar range as there are so few.

Dota keys are also a good investment if you are looking to cash out to tf2. You can sell dota 2 keys for 2 dota keys for 3 tf2 keys or 3 for 4. So its something to look into.

Dota may not have wildly expensive items like tf2 (unless its like a golden baby roshan), but it is much easier to build quickly and then cash it all out.
