That seems like a cool idea, but imo price suggestions shouldn't be a competition, because it can cause people to make suggestions where it's not necessary or they wouldn't have before

I don't see why we want this mentality that price suggestions have to be a casual, fun interaction. Backpack.tf and the trading community need things priced. If a competition makes people price more, and more people price, what downside does that bring? The only problem I could see is a backlog of suggestions, but that's a positive problem fixed with more price mods, not something we should actively try to avoid.

And price suggestions that "aren't necessary" could easily be defined- put in place an automated to system that forces cooldowns on items after they've been priced, and gauge it based on what the item is. A craft hat will need a longer cooldown than an unusual, a Max head longer than a strange. Currencies (And items like Max's, Bills, and Buds if you'd like) could be put on a "case-by-case" basis. The automated cooldown could either operate as a filter that doesn't send the price suggestion to the moderators until after the cooldown expires, or it could forcibly lock the ability to make a new suggestion.

Yes, this is technically "restrictive" on the market, but it serves more to prevent spam that the moderators have to deal with moreso than artificially dictating market prices a la China's stock market. However, it is undeniable that this would prevent a lot of the bull rushes that are caused by the fact this economy is largely hinged on young, inexperienced and jumpy traders- technically this could be viewed as an infringement on the natural flow of the economy but it could equally be argued that the bull rush aspects of this economy are inherently not natural. And if someone is really that worried about the automation being abused or failing to reflect actual market fluctuations, then add a function that allows users to report to moderators items that are being listed for highly fluctuating prices deviating from a locked price.

I feel like over competitive pricing could lead to some serious issues down the line, but that really isnt something I'm going to get into

rather, I think that we could bring back the good ol' unusual pricing competition, if anyone remembers that

I can't seem to find the thread, but I think it was really fun and everyone enjoyed doing it, we would just need someone to run it since I dont have time anymore

Yeah I remember that :P I eventually stopped since after a while people stopped doing them. I can't seem to find the thread either. If people would like something like that again I would not mind hosting it.

http://forums.backpack.tf/index.php?/topic/18297-challenges-of-the-week/page-1Are you referring to this? I believe someone made a newer version about a year later, forget who though

The problem with that is that people do it for a few weeks and then get bored or stop caring. It's also annoying to keep track (thanks aaron for doing that in the original thread 3 years ago :P)

He means the one after that. The one who did that was Kevin himself, until I took over and then suffered what you described above :P

yeah I made one around a year later similar to that and ran it for around 3 months, the only difference being that there were themes and prizes for the top contributors, as well as at least one mega-event with unusuals on the line.

Since cares has been doing a lot on the main site, it might be possible to implement it on the front page if enough people are interested? I'm not sure if that would be asking too much of cares tho

Yeah I remember this, there was even a Steam group for it if I recall correctly. It'd be nice if it would make a return.

For the topic, I don't mind the idea. More suggesters is fine given that there's many outdated/unpriced unusuals and a changing market on regular items. More suggestions is something that we should encourage and I think your idea might help with that.

I feel like a month would be a better time period for it. Or how about most points over a month period. Just like how accurate people are with their voting.

Voting accuracy would be shared by some 20 users monthly, there's usually around that many with 100% accuracy

Hence why it should be changed to most points as we as the accuracy?  :P
