Need tips on paypal trading

Recommended Posts

Not sure if a thread like this already exists somewhere, could not find it.

I'm about to cash out my tf2 backpack, I've got quite a lot of pure and a couple of unusuals. I want to sell it all for $ on paypal but I've never used it before.

Can some of more experienced traders give me some tips on how to reduce the risk of getting scammed/charged back?

I know I should avoid shady profiles, with few games/hrs in tf2, etc.

I really want to get rid of all the stuff in one go or in large chunks so I'm mostly concerned about getting charged back after I send the items.

Pls halp

How to check the profile of a potential seller/buyer

1) Copy his profile link. You need to make sure it's the ACTUAL profile link and not one he gave you.

2) Paste it into the Search bar on www.steamrep.com and you can research his/her profile (rep.tf/backpack.tf/tf2op)

How to prevent a chargeback

Once you've been accused of charge backing, there's pretty much nothing you can do. I lost 30 keys this way before.

You can either;

1) Sell your stuff through marketplace.tf (full chargeback safety)

2) Make sure he sends the money through 'Business' and not through 'Family and Friends' and make him add a note with all the stuff he's buying.

Also, don't ever trade your stuff to a middleman he provided. It's high likely to be an impersonator.

Thanks man. What's the difference between 'Business' and 'Family and Friends' do we have to pay some extra fees or anything like that?

As a basis use rep.tf

I'll use mine as an example

https://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198055847835/<< my steam URL

throw that into rep.tf and you should come up with this.

Check for their previous cash reputation. If they don't have any I personally wouldn't trade with them

https://steamrep.com/tips/pretrade<<< check this out as well.

Seeing that your backpack consists mostly of keys you have 2 ways of cashing these out

If you wanna get quick cash, most key buyers will pay you 1.75 to 1.85 per key and you can usually sell in bulk

You can also sell via Marketplace.tf like Eric recommended. They take time a bit of time to sell but you can usually get close to a 1.85-1.90 per key at the least.

Seriously, don't send money through business, use family and friends. Just make sure you do a background check.

Business requires an extra fees but it's safer than Family and Friends.

When you are the one sending money though, then it's cheaper to choose Family and Friends but when you receive money then just choose safety above all since it's your entire backpack.

Thanks guys, really appreciate the help!

I'll sell the keys through marketplace and then just look for a buyer for whatever is left :)
