Question on Item History

I've noticed that some items have an item id starting at a low lower value then others. For example, one of my unusuals have an item id beginning at the 1 billion ish, while I saw this other unusual id starting at the 5 billion ish. This got me wondering, was it possibly to clear the item id for an item? If so, how could I possibly know whether an item is duped or not? Or is backpack.tf just not showing the entire item history?

The item_id of an item is the numerical identifier of the item in one's backpack. This changes all the time, with different owners of the item. Your unusual having an item_id was the item being in your backpack without it having been traded in a long time. Other people's unusuals might have an item_id of 5bn as it has been traded recently. As time goes on, item_id goes up and up.

As to know whether an item is duped, Backpack.tf does this quite helpfully. Just look at the item's history upon Bp.tf as so:

Backpack.tf does not always show the entire item history, only if the item has been recorded in a user's backpack when that user or user's backpack has been viewed upon Backpack.tf with that item.

The higher the itemID, the more recent it has been exchanged. If you look at the original itemID of an item, you can get an indication of how long ago it was unboxed. Some go back to numbers with far less digits than the common itemID currently has.

Histories can not be cleared, and the farther back you go, the less accurate it will be.

Item IDs also change when paint/name or description tags/kill streak kits/strange parts/etc are applied, not just after being traded.
