Er.. Why was I banned?

So I put a buy listing on the classifieds for a lime painted special eyes and mentioned that I was paying 7.33 ref only for a lime painted one. I just logged in and I found out it was apparently against the rules to do that and I was banned from using the classifieds. Can someone explain why? I'm still a bit confused.

The price you put in the box is supposed to be the price you'd pay for any variant of an item. You can specify that you're paying more for lime painted ones in the notes, but you can't put the price for lime ones and say you aren't buying normal ones too.

"Your list price must be what you are willing to pay for a generic, unpainted item. You may state a higher price for painted in the notes."

literally every buy order stating they'll pay less for dupes should be banned then

quickbuying scum left and right ignoring this rule on unusuals, this guy tries to buy a fucking lime cancer cosmetic and he gets banned?

I don't think you read it correctly. "Your list price must be what you are willing to pay for a generic, unpainted item." That means I can list a buy order at 15 keys for a certain unusual hat. That would mean I am willing to pay 15 for a generic version of that hat. However, in the NOTES I can say that I'll only pay 11 for a non generic, duped version of that hat. My list price is not 11, herego it is not bannable. Seems you just misunderstood what it said.

Alright, thanks I guess. I see why it's against the rules, but I still don't understand why it is a rule in the first place.

Currently all buy orders are assumed to be for plain, unmodified items, besides killstreaks which have their own stats pages. When buy orders for modified items are made, e.g. items with paint, parts, spells, they go into the rest of the buy orders for plain items. Since modified items are almost always worth more, they push down the rest of the buy orders unfairly.

No such rule exists for duped items.

its the exact same concept you all can sit here and whine about technicalities and stupid bullshit but the idea of trying to find arbitrary ways to differentiate items is unvaried

duped or unduped does literally nothing to the appearance of the hat in game (hint, thats what you're buying not a train of numbers)

paint modifies in game look

it'd be alot more logical to allow for differentiation on paint than on history

but as always the loopholes and cesspool of rules appears to have somehow wandered into getting that completely backwards

seems about par for the course

I don't get that logic, his buy listing was higher than average for a cosmetic with something applied to it, how should someone be banned for stating they'll pay LESS for something in the notes?

I mean I agree that quickbuying is dumb and all that but come on.

Not allowing buy orders for only modified items has nothing to do with in-game appearance, it's how the site currently handles buy orders. To keep it fair for everyone we don't allow them.
