FBI Recommends No Criminal Charges for Hillary Clinton

Three hours and no PRS thread? Disgraceful!

Anyway, you know about the email thing Hillary's had going on. Storing government emails on her own private server, deleting them when asked, etc, etc. The report stated that the investigation found the following emails:

  • 110 emails had classified info
  • 8 chains top secret info
  • 36 secret info
  • 8 confidential (lowest)
  • +2000 "up-classified" to confidential

And many others that were unclassified, but contained sensitive information.

Copied straight from the press release, this is how the FBI put it.

"Although we did not find clear evidence that Secretary Clinton or her colleagues intended to violate laws governing the handling of classified information, there is evidence that they were extremely careless in their handling of very sensitive, highly classified information."

Discuss.

I'm not one to talk as I don't come from the US and don't know much about what Hilary Clinton represents and wants for a nation.

However, it does definitely sound quite iffy that she did such a thing and possibly a reason to call treason or at least do a full-on investigation on her.

But in all retrospect, isn't nearly all of politics corrupt?

You're right in saying that its iffy. I was speaking to my grandmother (A assistant for a congresswoman) who was telling me that EVERY government employee has to use the assigned emails, and its all verified/logged somewhere to provide accountability. The issue with Clinton is that we have no idea what she was saying - legitimate or not. My grandmother was telling me all sorts of things of how they aren't even allowed to use personal emails on the computers that they work on (Although that may be for security, either way the same principle applies to the Clinton case)

In all honesty, I'm shocked that she wasn't barred from the election given that she was being investigated for a federal crime. I'm not shocked that they didn't further the investigation/declared "No criminal charges".

Here, have another quote from the press release.

"To be clear, this is not to suggest that in similar circumstances, a person who engaged in this activity would face no consequences. To the contrary, those individuals are often subject to security or administrative sanctions."

Thanks, FBI.

This election is really a win-win

If hillary wins corporate america wins, therefore capitalism wins.

If trump wins, capitalism wins.

You know democracy is in trouble when the system allowed two candidates which a majority does not seem to want.

I am not American, but what I read from surveys and heard from Americans on steam, nobody really seems to belive in either of these candidates.

So the real question is, USA, wtf happened?

You do realize people on steam aren't the majority of the population, and people had MANY options, both on the democrat side and republican side.

Thanks to democracy a socialist/communist won't run as the democrat candidate.

yep, thanks to democracy a xenophobic borderline fascist will run as the Republican nominee and a criminal bribed idiot will run as the Democratic nominee

but hey, thank god they aren't socialist!

and I won't respond to what you say because the PRS has jaded me too much

Trump is not a fascist. And fascist and socialists are politically very, very close. The world's first fascist party was a result of the Italian socialist party splitting into communists and fascists.

And I as an outsider don't really understand why her mail is such a big deal. Clinton just seems to be Obama 2.0 which sounds pretty well to me. You're not supposed to be voting on somebody based on their personality but based on their plans with the country. And if trump wins I bet the brits are pretty pleased they're no longer the biggest joke of 2016

Honestly, anything that's not socialist/communist is good in my eyes.

Capitalism breeds innovation. And after all, capitalism promotes personal work, if you strive for big things you will get there if you put in the hours.

I'll quote a really good reddit comment with the highlights, but basically she committed a felony since she sent highly classified material over an unprotected personal server.

"The highlights:

    1. It is a felony to mishandle classified information in a grossly negligent way
    2. It is a felony to knowingly remove classified information from appropriate systems
    3. 110 emails were classified at the time they were sent, 8 at the Top Secret level Outside of the scope of mishandling classified info, this is a violation of FOIA laws, as it's the destruction of government records - "The FBI also discovered several thousand work-related e-mails that were not in the group of 30,000 that were returned by Secretary Clinton to State in 2014."
    4. TS/SAP programs
  1. are the most highly classified programs in the Military/Intelligence Community, frequently involving information that could literally get intelligence sources killed or result in permanently losing a source of critical intelligence - "For example, seven e-mail chains concern matters that were classified at the Top Secret/Special Access Program level when they were sent and received. These chains involved Secretary Clinton both sending e-mails about those matters and receiving e-mails from others about the same matters."
  2. It's highly likely that this classified information, and other sensitive information, was compromised by foreign intelligence services - "She also used her personal e-mail extensively while outside the United States, including sending and receiving work-related e-mails in the territory of sophisticated adversaries. Given that combination of factors, we assess it is possible that hostile actors gained access to Secretary Clinton’s personal e-mail account"
  3. HRC and every other person involved should have known what they were doing was wrong - "There is evidence to support a conclusion that any reasonable person in Secretary Clinton’s position, or in the position of those government employees with whom she was corresponding about these matters, should have known that an unclassified system was no place for that conversation"
  4. Despite all of this, no charges will be filed, as "although there is evidence of potential violations of the statutes regarding the handling of classified information, our judgment is that no reasonable prosecutor would bring such a case"
  5. Just because Clinton got away with it, other less powerful people should be warned they'll be prosecuted - "To be clear, this is not to suggest that in similar circumstances, a person who engaged in this activity would face no consequences."

Edit: rip the bullet format xD

America has such strange views on socialism. Every small kind of social security is seen as inherently evil and the government trying to fuck you over. I believe in capitalism, but the market is not perfect. It never is. Sometimes it requires a government to guide it. Educational systems for instance, poor but smart people can't get loans at normal rates to go to university, so they receive cheap loans or funding by the government. Yet in the US everybody seems to have crippling student debts because you are terrified of government interference and refuse to let the government help people who are in a tough situation help them out. Anarcho-capitalism is an illusion, much like Anarcho-communism and Anarcho-Syndicalism have proven to be.

Yes, I understand what she did, I don't understand why it's such a big deal. It seems to me like it's not that different from the politicians leaving floppy disks, cd-roms and usb sticks everywhere, only with new technology. None of those people ever got in big trouble to my knowledge, and at least one of them became EU parliamentarian after that

I'm not surprised she hasn't been charged, she's got a lot of influence over the higher ups. I don't think Blair's going to be so lucky in regards to his illegal war and Dr Kelly's "suicide".

In all honesty, did anyone expect that she would be charged?  There was no doubt in my mind that this wouldn't have legal repercussions for her.  This isn't so much a comment on the Clintons, it's a comment on how you can easily get out of almost anything in the States if you're rich.  E.g. How many bankers were jailed after 2008?  One.  There should have been dozens.  If you have money and influence (both of which the Clintons have plenty of) you can get your ass out of the fire in the States pretty easily.

WHAT???

WHAT???

"pretty well to me"

obama didnt do jack dude, remeber the obamacare shit that he lied to the american people about? he also did stupid shit like let people with h1 visas from fuckin india take high paying technology jobs for low wages which fucking up the economy and recommended salaries! my parents born in raised in america lost their jobs to these kind of people.

i have friends who live in 1 story homes compared to 2 story 500k homes they live in years ago. the american people in the technology industry are getting poorer and poorer because of cockroaches with h1 visas! people like us americans - they try to find new jobs and get offered lets say 60k to 80k (the india lowball salary as i call it) compared to 130k or 140k they'd get 10 years ago! the american dream is ruined!

and then he let thousands of refugees in and among the swarm could be terrorists! that makes us less immune to stopping these kind of people even though we have pretty tight security but we already let them in our country! we're extremely vulnerable to attacks led by isil now!

i guess if you're a bluecollar immigrant hed be good but not to your average american middle class citizen trying to find a job !! he did nothing in american affairs that was beneficial to anyone only to the people overseas!

No one doubted that she would be charged. However the sticking point is that there were so many obvious things leading up to this decision. Bill Clinton meeting with Loretta Lynch. Hillary Clinton talking with the FBI at their headquarters. Obama having Hillary ride on Air Force One the day before the decision. Obama stumping for Clinton after the FBI said they would not charge her. There are too many factors in there for it to just be dismissed as coincidental.

Makes you wonder why the Democratic Party chose a career criminal who has her hands in Wall Street money over Bernie Sanders. My hope that if Trump wins, Hilllary gets summoned again for the emails and her ass gets roasted this time.

Agreed 100% and that was the point I tried to make. Nobody's surprised that she didn't get charged, yet everyone knows there is so much suspicious BS surrounding this you could decorate a Christmas tree with it (except for republicans apparently...."the system is rigged!"...Oh yea?  No shit Sherlock.  Clearly it is, since nobody went to jail when a Republican government went to war without a UN resolution and after WMDs were never found....).

There are so many reasons other than this why she shouldn't represent the most powerful nation on this planet, let alone represent 350 million people who she clearly has little - if anything - in common with.  The fact that she's running at all shows you just how fucked up and corrupted US politics has become.

EDIT: ...And the sad thing is, she will most likely win...although, not like Trump is a better choice.
