No Sports Camp=No tryouts?

I decided not to take Track Camp because it was $150 to just run around on a track and I already have my own running training so I didn't really need that. Most of my friends agreed too that it was rather useless cause it's Track -_- common man. So I decided to opt out but then after talking with some other people in other camps they've said that you have to take camp in order to tryout for the sports and others have said you don't so I'm quite confused. I would like to know if this is true or not and if you guys have gone through the same thing. If I can't find the answer here I'll have to ask the Track coach but I'm asking here first as he's hard to contact.

Depends on your school. My track and cross country takes anyone, but only the fastest kids run varsity. Ask the coach. Remember that it takes about a month to get back into running shape :P

Hmm thanks for the input. I'll see if I can't contact the coach sometime but the deadline for camp has passed. If I can't join oh well there's next year. By any chance you in a CA district?
