Zapperzz Posted April 28, 2015 Share Posted April 28, 2015 Lately people have been complaining about the new backpack.tf lottery, because as with any lottery everyone wants to win. Normally everyone has a somewhat equal chance of winning the pot, but in this case that is not true. The fact that someone can have a 90% chance of winning the pot makes winning very hard and basically ruins the game. Lately some people have been able to see a pot they like, and put in enough items to increase their chance of winning both their items back and the other users' items to a high enough percent that there is hardly risk involved. Some examples: (not using anyone specifically) This lets people win lotteries over and over without that risk factor even existing. This not only rips off new players, but clogs the system from letting other people have the excitement of winning. An example: (again not trying to use anyone specifically) This is not "bad" that people are doing this. They are simply being smart and still taking a somewhat risk in betting a massive amount of items at once that they could lose. I just don't think that this is good for a lottery system such as this one. While I do realize that with a (lets say 70% chance of winning, constantly betting the same amount), 30% of the time you will lose everything, and thus it is not technically possible to profit off of this gambling system. (because in that 30% of the time you are losing your 70 percent winnings that you constantly bet, and you are then left with only your original 70%) So I'm not complaining about profit opportunities, I just think it is simply ruining the fun of this gambling system. There needs to be a limit or cap for how much % chance of winning you can have. The point of gambling sytems like this is to have some risk of losing your items, or winning big. That is what makes it "fun" and less about a technique to make profit. With there being no limit to how high your percent of winning is, it kind of ruins the fun. Jacobmeister Posted April 28, 2015 Share Posted April 28, 2015 I understand your point, 95% cap is basically a guaranteed win, and by the time you ever lose one at those odds, you technically don't lose any value as you've won all those other bets (this is totally theoretical of course) I don't see anyone else complaining about this current cap, though. That screenshot with d0 winning many lotteries in a row wouldn't be possible in a normal lottery system, and I don't think it should be possible in this one. Again, not that it is bad for an individual to take risks in order to win multiple times, I just don't think it is good for this system as a whole. Hmm, very good point, although with a 95% chance of winning there is almost no luck. Kath Posted April 28, 2015 Share Posted April 28, 2015 One thing I have thought of is a severe cooldown for winners (say, a few hours or so), so they don't spam items and basically get free profit if they see anything they might like. Also, 'not anyone in particular' I honestly did not post this with either of the 2 people who have been accused of abusing some lottery recently. I don't know the whole story behind the Wayne x d0 thing, nor do I care. I do not believe they did anything wrong from what I can see. the funny thing is that even though D0 has won 34 times it shows him as having a net loss lol. I don't know why he kept playing like that. This isn't about the profit, I think d0 actually has lost overtime because as I stated above, theoretically speaking and solely based on numbers, it is impossible to profit from this no matter how much or little you bet.
