Best mario game?

Tough question. I grew up with nothing but nintendo consoles, so I can't pick a single favourite, however, I can probably narrow it down to these:

-Super Mario World

-Yoshi's Island

-Mario Kart: Double Dash

-Super Mario Sunshine

Out of ALL Mario games, it's hard to say. If I were forced to choose only 1, I'd choose Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door. Despite some flaws I hadn't noticed when I was a child (lots of backtracking, pausing to swap partners, etc.), it's still lots of fun overall, on TOP of all the nostalgia it gives me. However, I also greatly enjoyed Super Mario Sunshine, Super Mario 64 (of course), and Super Mario Galaxy. Basically, most of the Mario games that break from the classic side-scrolling formula (though, those are good also).

But the best minigames go to Super Mario 64 DS. Gotta love those Luigi's casino minigames.

Super Mario World, first mario game I played on the SNES and always enjoyed it the most out all the mario games I played.

When I was younger, I LOVED sunshine, still do. Also both wii and gamecube paper mario games, 64, world, Yoshi's island... Man, I can't narrow it down, I love all of them, even 2 (though it isn't technically a mario game, but I still like it).

sunshine all the way, i literally played it like 50 times when i was a kid. not even exaggerating i thought beating the game a certain amount of times would let me become shadow mario

is it bad that paper mario actually creeped me out when i was younger?

Not really. Some of the imagery was very surreal, so one cannot really blame you.
