Beyond Earth was a let down. Nothing makes the factions really feel individual and characteristic, and everything seems kinda flat. For example, for wonders you get a mediocre quote and a blueprint picture of the wonder (that doesn't hold really any significance), which is nothing compared to the satisfaction of building a grand wonder in CiV.

Might sound cliche, but it did really feel like a re-skin of CiV, or even a mod of it.

CiV will get you so much more involved and immersed in the game compared to Beyond Earth's gameplay.

Affinities are cool though.

Civ V for now. The main rule of thumb is that it takes 2 expansions for a Civ game to start to shine.

So wait until the expansions for Beyond Earth come out.

Both.

However, you can't just simply compare a full game with a new one without any dlcs.

I found many familiar things from Civ 5 in BE, but they're scattered all around wonders, virtues, buildings.

Spying is actually useful and more complex.

Affinites, its perks and units' upgrades (not to be confused with exp levels) are really cool.

Tech web is diffucult to understand at the first glance, but it allows you to research what you want, i.e. in Civ 5 you have to research sailing and other sea-realted techs in order to build an observatory for teh science, even if you don't have any coastal cities. In BE you just go in the direction you want.

Quests - something new, gives choices, which is always good.

Aliens are not just re-skinned barbarians who pillage hexes and steal your workers; if you don't touch them, their rate of attacks will be greatly reduced to the point they don't attack you at all and can meatshield you from enemies. They're pretty useless in the late game tho.

More tile improvements.

Miasma. Too much of explaining, but you can turn this thing into the ultimate defense without having any military units. Unless AI goes into Harmony and/or researches a certain tech, then miasma will heal his units. Best tile improvements require miasma-free tiles tho.

Satellites. Useful. For realzies.

On the other hand, the game is new, there are bugs (didn't notice them yet however) and it's somewhat flat, not much content there.

Military AI is still dumb.

Can't wait for a gold edition/GOTY and DLCs.

Havent tried Beyond Earth yet but hear it's lacking and just simple core of the game for now.  Might wait til an expansion happens first, those tend to add alot more content.
