Ironically, this should be adressed.

I was kicked from a server for camping. GG Admins.

But the people who hate on camping are really hating the wrong thing

Since Camping was coined ages ago, and was most prominent on the Ol' days on Modern Warfare 2, it has spread to other games and communities that call waiting players campers.

Now, what is Camping?

The act of waiting in the same position or relative area in an attempt to ambush unknowing opponents

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Camping_(gaming)

But in real life war, this tactic is used ALOT.

Called Stealth.

Called Sniping too.

In war you don't see someone running around with a Sniper Rifle shouting 'QUIKSCUPZ' when they see someone. That's a death sentence.

The Sniper and Engi in TF2 are good examples of this.

The Sniper is meant to pick targets off from a distance, normally in the same position. They are forced to do this as their SMG and Melee aren't as effective as the Sniper Rifle.

The Engineer? He has no weapons he can thoroughly make an 'advancement' on. Besides the Gunslinger and Frontier Justice combo. His class is designed to literally wait around corners and ambush players with the Sentry.

In other games?

CS:GO: The AWP and SSG 08, as well as some shotguns and even the Casual/Competitive game modes. The AWP and SSG are designed to pick targets off from a distance as Shotguns are to guard targets in CQB. The gamemodes also require camping. Bomb Sites need to be defended as well as the bomb itself, and the Hostages also need to be defended.

Unreal Tournament: There is a gun called the Sniper Rifle, it's self explanatory

Call of Duty: Bomb Sites, Flags, Tactical Holding points? And again the concept of Sniping is evident with the famous Rifle, Intervention, as prominent in MW2. (Chose to leave out other games due to recurring nature + MW2 was the beginning)

Battlefield: Sniping is prominent as well. If we take a look back at the map Operation Metro, Everyone was camping in the map, every point, position and site. Coz BF3 was a tactical shooter, and still is. In fact, when I played, I single-handedly captured some points in Conquest by camping beforehand, by defending my position as the only person capturing the point.

I can rant on and on and on for different games but there is no point.

Last clarification:

Spawn camping is a dick move

Normal camping is not

So stay the hell out of their spawn <3

So, yeah, anyway

Camping is frowned upon for being a pusillanimous move. But before you hate someone for camping; Remember that they are playing it smart by not walking/running into enemy fire for hopes of an easy kill.

You may now h8 <3

You don't see those people because they leave no survivors

It's not much of a problem. Campers always go and wait in the same spot. And they usually equip the razorback. Just go any class and wreck their shit. But I do frown upon it.

Why not use spy as an example? The whole purpose of one of his cloaks is to camp basically.

Because Engi and Sniper are the most obvious camping class

Camping is reasonable in real life, basically the only tactic snipers should use because obviously people don't respawn here.

In shooter games it's a bit annoying and i think it ruins the fun if somebody is doing it excessively

oh and...

(FUCK SPAWN CAMPING)

Spawn camping is definitely a dick move. Other camping is always acceptable because if you're skilled enough you'll be able to kill them anyway.

I seen alot of people crying over camping on CS GO but thats one of the main elements of the game. Camping isnt so useful in Tf2 tho as staying in one place can get you killed quite easily by a soldier or demoman. It really depends on a situation.

Spawn camping might be a dick move on pubs, but on comp it's highly accepted and called "Dominating a team" .

I mean if you're "camping" in a spot the whole game, it should be easy to find and kill you is it not? People watch key areas where players move through because they are important. Kinda defeats the purpose of the game if people are going out of their way to avoid important positions.

Actually, it isn't called that in comp; there is no name for it. If your team is being spawn camped in comp tf2, it just means your team isn't communicating; if a team is coordinated enough, you can stop spawn campers easily.

I didn't know people in comp were shit enough to be spawn camped at all

Like I said, only if a team isn't communicating enough; this usually happens in the lower div's more than in the higher ones. If it does happen in the higher ones, it doesn't happen for long.

Barring TF2 since this is under Gen. Gaming, I honestly have a mixed opinion on the camping topic.

The former CoD tryhard in me (put that Glock down, I already blew that particular part of the brain out) someonehow influences me to camp on certain maps in Battlefield 4 to buff my stats and increase my e-peen. To elaborate, I mainly 'lurk' on certain areas to help boost my K:D ratio in Zavod 311 and Operation Dawnbreaker and sometimes Rogue Transmission. The Zavod one I found a secret sweet spot that once got me 53 kills to 16 deaths. In the other 2 mentioned I usually pick out a random spot then snipe off targets, which usually results in ~30 kills and 10-20 deaths. But in other maps I play frontline trooper aggressively, even sniping nearer to the front than most other snipers in the game, these plays have a wildly varying ratio but are usually 3:2 most of the time. Sometimes 2:1 solid.

In War Thunder however it's a different story. I do not camp most of the time unless I'm defending a flag or found a good vantage point behind the enemy. Usually it's "fire at that tank > move forward > fire at that tank some more > move towards that cover > cap point > bunker down" When I'm not doing that I take 20 minutes to drive around the dge of the map to anal rape the enemy.

Counter Strike I do not camp at all unless it's objective related, eg Defending a Dropped Bomb, Defending a Planted Bomb or Covering a Teammate while he diffuses. Not even with an AWP I camp excessively, I usually move to a different spot since camping in that game's gonna get you killed in Deathmatch mode. I use Blue Tack as hip fire crosshairs for the AWP.

In TF2 I only go Sniper in Trade servers and 2fort. I never play Engie outside of MvM. I suck at Spy. This is pretty much Self Explanatory.

TL:DR I only camp to PTFO, buff stats or if I'm feeling lazy.

Spawn camping is camping at spawn, spawn killing however is killing people at spawn

My sniping play style is aggressive so I don't camp, from watching sniper demos, most of the good snipers don't camp, they usually stick to the combo or a group of engis, scouts, other snipers, soldiers etc. Camping to me is sometimes seen as a good and bad thing, depending on your aim. Camping is also perceived as a good strategy as you can get good picks like camping in a bush and dropping the med

For some reason my aim is better when there's a bit of realistic balistics ;-;

TF2 = "harhar yuo have shet aim"

BF4/War Thunder Tank Sim. Battle/Sniper Elite = "OMG HAKZ YUO CANT HAVE HEDSHOTTED ME I WAS IN A MOVING QUADBIK REPORTED I HOPE YUO GET BANNED SKRUB"

Camping is basically why i have (for lack of a better term) a love-hate relationship w/ the sniper. He is in the top 2 of my favorite classes (other is scout).

I am either as sit back at the back kind of guy, or a run in there gun, nothing really in between. However, when i start getting killed by all the snipahs, that is when i hate the class.
