Please explain Strange weapons to me?

Hi. So first of all I'd like to warn you to expect noob-ish questions, since I'm new to backpack.tf. Also kinda new to tf2 as a whole  :(

Earlier, I viewed the whole tf2 economy thing as a very complex mechanism that I'd rather not have gotten involved in. Now, however, I have a key, and somehow that makes me semi-rich. Sort of. Right?

Apparently, metal is the currency here. From what I've seen, people indirectly or directly want only metal for stuff, even as keys. Or those ridiculously expensive, plain, generic earbuds.

Now, one thing I'm interested in giving my key up for is the whole strange weapons thing. Apparently, they shine purple and count kills and have robot heads hanging from the nozzles. Right? That looks pretty cool. So, is it possible for me to trade my key for one of those? Or maybe just a strange weapon without the shine and robot heads? I basically want a Strange Baby Face's Blaster, Strange Spy-Cicle, Strange YER and Strange Blutsauger. Is one key going to be enough for all that? Buying another is no problem for me. Thanks in advance!

P.S I'm looking for some friends as well, not necessarily to win but just have some fun, fool around etc. I'll also be getting a mic-enabled headset soon, so there's that too. Also, I'll be much more active after my exams get over (next week) on tf2. Good day/Night!

P.S.S Probs also getting Smash for 3DS, So anyone interested can give me their FC! Also for Animal Crossing, Bravely Default, Street Fighter 3D, Resident Evil Revelations etc.

Stranges count your kills!

Check outpost using the backpack.tf (main page) site for cheapest sellers. Then when u see that seller buy it off them if its under the price or look for less.

I put Strange Baby Face's Blaster in the search, but nothing shows D:

search up baby on outpost.

Then click on it where it says unique press the arrow to the side and press strange. Then search (make sure its on the left side, if selling and looking for buyers use the right)

On backpack.tf just write in baby and where it says baby face blasters, follow that link and go over to strange, click on the price (1.33 ref) and there u are.

Or just easily let me do the work and click this link http://backpack.tf/stats/Strange/Baby%20Face%27s%20Blaster/Tradable/Craftable

Or those ridiculously expensive,

earbuds.

You haven't  did not see REALLY expensive things yet :P

Is one key going to be enough for all that?

Let's see.

S. YER is basically 1 key.

S. Blut is 2.66 or close to that

S. Baby face(lol) - 1.33

S. Spy cicle - 3.33 when i checked last time

So yeah, that will be enough for S.YER or other 3 items (and you'll still have spare metal)

Remember: bp.tf isn't a set price list.

Put baby face blaster only. The orange label thing is the price.

And that children, is why there is a suggest price button.

...which some people confuses with "Sell my shit now!" button.

Upd:

From what I've seen, people indirectly or directly want only metal for stuff, even as keys.

That's true.

However, some people are taking items too (in most cases, with overpay from your side). Why? Quote below.

Unless you overpay, there's no reason for me to take it.  I'd just have to sell your crap instead of selling what I already have

Source: http://forums.backpack.tf/index.php?/topic/18212-overpay/?p=202633

Upd2:

Reason why people prefer Strange version of wep over normal is pretty obvious: It counts kills. For example my medigun. In 15 thousands assists a lot of things happened, my skill has grown(or not, lol), etc etc

"Halp, keyz r raising, fakin highbalerz, u r crushin teh ecanomy, savetehkeyz, maek dem 2.33(or whatever)"

Anyway, need 2 stop derailing from point of thread

Oh, so Strange and Robot Head Weapons are different?

And honestly, if the current prices of earbuds aren't considered expensive, I don't wanna see what is. I don't think my young, fragile little heart could take it. Or my young, fragile little wallet.

Thanks for the answers everyone. I had another question; why do people trade in mostly metal? You were right, I now noticed that some do direct trades for items. But why is metal so precious? And earbuds?

And YER? D:

YER - Your Eternal Reward.

Strange version of weapons are coming from the crates mainly.

"Robot Head Weapons" (Botkillers, if be accurate) are coming as a reward in the end of MVM tour. They're always strange.

But why is metal so precious? And earbuds?

Because it is form of currency.

Comparsion to IRL money: 1 ref is 1 cent, 1 key is 1 dollar, 1 bud is.. eh, 20 or 50 or 100 dollars, whatever, you got the point.

people mostly trade in metal because you can relate it to real life currency and its the most common currency

earbuds are "precious" because they were only obtainable from an event in 2010 (i think)

Metal's basically the base currency of the game.

As for why earbuds are the way they are, it's because back in the early days of tf2 trading, people could only trade a maximum of 8 items at a time. As Earbuds were a limited rare promo item, they quickly gained value in trading capabilities. Bill's hats were the intermediate level between keys and buds for similar reasons, but they've lost their appeal and a good chunk of value nowadays.

And honestly, if the current prices of earbuds aren't considered expensive, I don't wanna see what is.

The most valuable item in the game is a Burning Flames Killer Exclusive, which is worth about 300 buds or $10,000.
