How to greet other traders

So recently, I've noticed that trading etiquette has dropped a lot. Admittedly, i had retired about 2 months back, but I really didn't think it would go down the crap hole THAT fast. Let me show you a typical chat with someone with less than 300 hours of gameplay:

Me: Hi

Me: how can i help you?

Trader: Can you link me your outpost?

Me: ...Okay. (Link)

Trader is offline.

Okay. Nothing too bad, but you could have at least TOLD me you didn't need anything anymore.

here is 500ish:

Me: Hi

Me: How can I help ya?

Trader: your (item). I'll pay (offer). No more no less. Take it or leave it.

Me: I'll pass.

Trader: Haha. I offered you a great deal. Idiot.

Trader is offline.

So these are obviously some low end examples. It get's worse as either A) backpack size is bigger or B) has around 800 hours.

These are my personal experiences. Now what I really wanted to talk about:

How you do you greet traders? I always start with hi and how can i help you.

If I'm buying an item from someone I usually say "Hi, [item name]?". It's clear and to the point.

Since I personally strongly prefer trade offers I don't like to chat more than necessary.

If someone approached me, I just say hi. No need to get fancy.

If someone adds me, I always start with "Hello there :) How can I help ya?"

If I add someone I go "Hi there :) I'm interested in buying your (item) if it's still available" or "Hi there :) Are you still selling your (item) for (price listed on their trade)?"

When added "Hello, how may I help you?"

When adding "Hello, could I buy your {item} please?"

If I know why they added me, just "Hello"

I act different depending on what they act like.  I have a tendency to not say a word and just let the trade offer expire if they send a request before a word is even spoken.

Whenever someone adds me, I say "Hello!" and after I see that they send a message back, or are typing a message, I'll say "How can I help you?". I wait until then, in case they miss my first message, so I have something else to say to notify them that I accepted their add if they don't notice after a while.

random add: Hey, may I help you?

when I add: Hello, I'm interested in buying your (item name)

people I know: Hey.

raffle winners: Hello fellow it appears that you have won my raffle.

(I use TF2R, no profit raffles)

I like to lead with

"whats your scam today"

"please be quick, so I can block you and move on to the next phisher"

The most annoying thing is when someone adds you then removes you right after you greet them. At least have the courtesy to say "don't need anymore thx anyways"

Exactly like you cotton.

The most annoying thing is when someone just lost his reason when having an argument and removes you...

Or maybe when someone makes a deal that involves buying 200 weapons, accepting the price, and when I finally collect all the 200 weapons removes me and refuses the trade offer.

"Hi, How may I help you." is my go to greeting for selling.  It works quite well ^^
"Hi, I'd like to buy/ I'd like to purchase your ....." for buying.

*Edit
I always end a successful trade with "Thank you for the trade." "Have a nice day"
Even if the trade doesn't happen. Be it from rudeness or an overestimation of a killstreak's worth I still conclude with "Have a nice day."
*Edit End

In general a bit of politeness goes a long way in a trade.

I must say I've refused to trade before when their attitude was particularly grueling.
It's a shame to see traders not being more courteous with one other. Although I do understand it's a bit hard when one's grasp of english isn't up to the task.

Or those random adders who try to sell you a list of hats that he has (Which you never put a trade up for nor wanted)
Also those COMPLETELY random adds tend to get annoying. I've had someone add me in an attempt to sell some Steam Greenlight games as an "Investment". His price went down from 1 key per game to 1 refined per game in the time it took me to check out the game's store page  :/ . Telemarketers have arrived in tf2.

When being added: "Hello. How may I help you?"

When adding: "Hello. You're selling [item] for [price], yes? I'd like to buy it."

I think a positive attitude creates the right atmosphere and I think it is just laziness to type the extra nice words and arrogance.
